Updated MLB Farm System Rankings After 2023 MLB Draft | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors | Bleacher Report

New ranking just came out - 27 (which is a fall from 11 at the previous ranking).  This includes the most recent draft results.  Also interesting to see Christian Encarnacion Strand the number 2 ranked prospect in the Reds 3rd rated system.

Mahle trade is now almost laugable how one sided it has been (with Steer already playing solid ball in the majors).  Incredible work by the FO to achieve such lofty ranking 7 years into tenure and graduating so many high level prospects.

It hurts the ranking when Lewis and Julien lose their prospect status. But they both have six years of control left, and are basically prospects contract wise at this point. But yes, that's not great. I'll bet real money they are much higher at fangraphs. Much.

Kind of a sad list as of today, because at this point Jenkins and Soto are completely unknown. Lee has been very good but not so great he is forcing the hand of the FO to move him up. ERod (who I had/have high hopes for is hitting .206 in A+, Raya also in high A, but only 33 innings so far (so if he is to be a starter he is probably a couple of years away, only turns 21 next month), Prielipp 22 and has pitched 6 innings this year and 34 in the last 3 years, so he is years away from a major league starting pitcher, years. Wallner what hasn't been said about him already, Festa 23 in AA with a 5.21 ERA, Rosario 20 in high A, like his numbers there. Severino is almost 24 and stuck in AA. (27 year old Bechtold is the 3B in St. Paul, why again?)

I would disagree with Bleacher saying it is top-heavy and lacking depth, I would say the exact opposite it seems like there are a bunch of guys that will be major league players, but outside a a couple none that looks like franchise top players/pitchers. Outside of Lee (and that maybe stretching it a bit)I don't see a top of the rotation type pitcher or a future all star type player. (Leaving out the two high school guys)

Before people jump on me I would love all the Twins prospects to be solid major league players if they are 27 in AA or 17 in rookie ball.

All prospect rankings are good for is looking at how the overall scouting world thinks of the potential of your players.  They still need to perform when they come up.  You point out Steer, who is having a good rookie year, which may mean he continues to do well, or he slides back to where he was projected to be.  Miranda was a higher ranked prospect last year than Steer, but Miranda has been terrible this year.  Akil Baddoo never was a high ranked prospect, had a good rookie year and since has been terrible. Slightly better this year than last but overall not a MLB starter.

My point is, players can out play their rankings, or they can under play them.  Some guys that are ranked high on prospect lists never even make the majors.  Guys that are low on lists shoot up after a few years, and guys that are high on lists drop off quickly.  You never really know, and things change quickly.

E-Rod was coming off injury and missed time for a core muscle issue.  If you look at his last 30 games he has an slash line of .245/.409/.434 That is not bad at all.  Could it be better sure, but when you look at how he started.  He had a great June, and slow start to July, hopefully the break is jump start him again.  He also has had only 2 plate appearances against a pitcher younger than him all year.

The pitching in the minors was very thin before the draft, nobody in the top 100 or probably even the top 150. Festa is not considered a high upside guy.

Time to refill the pipeline with some trades over the next 17 days.

Side note… What happened to Prielipp? Just looked and saw he was quietly moved to the season long IL a few days ago.

Surgery coming, again. Was a good risk, that might not work....so "everyone" here can rip them for that too.....

Despite the futility of the AL Central, which would make you think higher draft picks for several years running would lead to some loaded farm systems, the highest ranked system is Detroit's at #14, basically average, with Cleveland right behind them.  Minnesota and Kansas City and Chicago all are languishing in the bottom 5 in their eyes.  What the heck?

This is one service...I doubt very much that MN will be bottom five at FG, for example.

Probably.

It's not a feather in anyone's cap in the FO if a bottom-five argument can be made, though.

Yunior Severino in the top 10, huh? As Mike Sixel said, it's odd why he isn't in AAA yet, the front office just must not value him very much. He had been Rule 5 eligible the past 2 drafts and has yet to be protected.
