Our draft tracker?

We're updating it every day.

Do these tidbits come from inside sources?

Glad to see rounds 3-6 picks in the fold, as well as some further down the line.  Itchy to get closure on the very top picks, and of course will hope for 100% signage.  But it's early.  Not so early, though - deadline has been shorter the last year or two than it used to be - what's the drop-dead date?

It depends. Ted runs around like a madman, gathering news from agents, players, relatives, dudes holding signs on the street...

Some of the information is directly from one of our contributors, some is sourced from Twitter, etc.

Does anybody know the deadline for signings?  When do we start getting worried?

No, but I poked around and last year's deadline was August 2, so probably it's sometime similar this year.

I have a spreadsheet in front of me that says July 25th.

Am I positive that is correct? No. Is it likely correct? Yes, it's coming from a guy who has been covering Cubs' drafts for years.

That deadline does not apply to players who were drafted after the 10th round and have exhausted draft eligibility (college seniors). They have basically a year to sign.

A page at mlb.com confirms this.  5 pm ET, July 25.  I hope Jenkins is aware, otherwise he could miss out on our millions.

Tick Tock, My Friends.

I know it makes sense in the draft world of recent years, but it is always crazy to see how closely the Twins use their draft pool.  10 players (not counting our 1st unsigned pick....) have left just 4,500 in pool money.  I was curious how close it was in the worse case scenario that Jenkins doesn't sign and we can throw money at Sam Parker and Ashton Larson.

"A team that outspends its pool by 0-5 percent pays a 75 percent tax on the overage." So subtracting $7,139,700 from our pool, I believe that means they could throw currently $360,430 (5%) + $4500 + $150,000 (each) at one of Sam or Ashton if they wanted.  Right? Not likely since the Twins have never done that, but $500k might get Sam or Ashton to think twice.

For Jenkins, they have $7,861,615 that they should be able to spend on him within the 5%, which, as others have said on Twitter (including JD Cameron), can push Jenkins over Max Clark's $7.7 million.  Seems doable, but definitely opens up a new tactic for agents against the Twins future draft picks if they see they are willing to pay the tax.  (Still seems like a unique scenario with 5 #1 pick type players, but?)  The tax seems worth it vs. having the #6 pick next year.

Is Jenkins really going to turn down $7.3M because he didn't get $7.8M? He'd have to bet that going to college would raise his draft status enough to get $9M or more in 2026. He shouldn't bet $500,000 now that he would be the #1 pick in 2026, especially when he will get to free agency faster as a high school draft pick.

But then you can use the same logic to ask why he'd turn down $7.2M just to get $7.3M, and then 7.1 to get 7.2.  At some point the agent has to dig in their heels to stop a race to the bottom.

Conversely the team has to watch out for winning the battle but losing the war by having a player sign but be disgruntled to start with, and then once again when free agency is gained.  And with a top draft pick, the long view has to take more of a prominent role than some 4th rounder.

Bottom line, I really don't know what the negotiations are like right now.  We'll maybe be able to infer some things at 5:01 pm Eastern Time on Tuesday.

Pretty sure the Twins are offering full slot. No reason to be disgruntled when you get full slot for your pick.
