Reds calling up Spencer Steer

Happy for Steer. He is ready.  Cinci got a versatile defender and well rounded bat in that deal.   He should be a good player for them for a long time.

It turned out better for Steer. He has more opportunities at CIN.

That is true, he was behind several guys in our lineup.  He would have got a chance next year if he stayed here, but Reds are fully rebuild they will give him every chance, here he would have had to break out or get sent down.  We also have a few guys that fit same roll that would be right behind him to pushing him.  That is why I had no issue with trading him because we had a lot of depth at same area he fills.

I'm not sure he'd have even gotten a real chance next year, either. I think it was a good trade for everyone involved.

Are we sure Kirilloff's wrist will be good to go next year, or that Miranda's glove (less likely his bat) sticks at 3B, or that Kepler locks down RF full time, ect ect? I'm not saying it was a bad trade, and Steer's leash will be longer in Cincy but if he can play, the Twins probably wouldn't have to try too hard to make room.

Alotta ifs in there ... I can't read the future. But given who we have now, both in the majors and the minors, still not sure he would have had a solid place, which is why he was expendable to trade.

I don't think he needs one as a guy that plays multiple positions right?

Pretty amazing debut for the young man.

10 pitch walk

Home run (called by Joey Votto and analyzed by Barry Larkin)

Another walk

9th inning double

Scores a walk-off game winning run on a single by likely perennial star teammate Jonathan India. Apparently he was the first Reds rookie in 90 years to score a walk-off run in his debut.

Forget about who will win the trade and all that.  That's a special debut for Steer, and something that makes baseball fun to watch.

But we already have a couple of those ... just saying, that the field is deep, both in the majors and the minors. And true, you never know with injuries, but at best he would be a bench person with us, and in Cincinnati he will likely get greater opportunities, maybe even as a starter. Just saying that his playing time would be far more limited with us than there, and that this is a better opportunity for him. It was a good trade for everyone ... us, them and him.

I have high hopes for Steer, I think he's capable of hitting like Miranda has this season. There will be ups and downs, of course, but here's hoping both us and the Reds can get proper value from the trade.
