stringer bell Verified Member Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 If the Twins win tomorrow against the White Sox, and the Royals and Tigers lose, guess who will be in first place? I wouldn't put too much money on that trifecta, but Detroit and KC are playing on the road against pretty good clubs. Despite being outscored by 10 runs, they've gotten back to .500 after 14 games. On a barely related note, the Twins are showing some patience this year. They drew eight walks (plus a HBP) even though the ump had a huge strike zone. For the year, the Twins have 66 free passes in 14 games, second only to the Oakland A's (per plate appearance).
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 It's nice to be at .500 again, like most years, as log as the Twins are near .500 (ideally better) they are still "in it" and makes it worthwhile to watch them. I would be very happy if we can somehow keep this up and win 75-81 games.
old nurse Verified Member Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Wilson scheduled for the Angels, Fister is for Detroit.Dempster for Boston, Santana for KC.Diamond vs Floyd.I wouldn't make any bets for the trifecta, but it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility

We all know it doesn't count if they don't win it all and just being a little better doesn't make it more fun to watch. Just like we know it doesn't matter who they sign as FA's because we're going to lose no matter what! Have you already forgotten your offseason memes?
stringer bell Verified Member Posted April 21, 2013 Author Posted April 21, 2013 In all seriousness, contention is a long shot, and respectability is probably less than a 50-50 proposition. Since before the season started, I've said that players establishing themselves is what this season is about. With the talent in the system coming along, what matters about this season is how many of the young guys can stake a claim to being contributors when the likes of Rosario, Sano, Arcia, Gibson, Meyer and May are playing for the Twins, with Buxton perhaps waiting in the wings.

glunn Community Moderator Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 It seems to me that today's win was special. Worley had a good game and the Twins eked out a tough win. I will sleep well tonight dreaming of 1st place..

Those guys have nothing to do with what this season is about. That's the future. This season is all about who we have on the team now and how they are competing. So far it ain't to bad!
Top Gun Provisional Member Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Winning always matter. the future is just for dreamers, the present is the only thing that matters and how well we do. Winning is the first step in a new direction.

Guest USAFChief Guests Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 You didn't know that games in April only count 50%? Is that according to BRef or Fangraphs? They value them differently you know.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 Well, close but no cigar. Royals win in 10 to take over undisputed first place, a game ahead of the Twins. Anyway, going home above .500 and playing Miami is good news.
