It's a really unexpected thing to see and bares questions about the Marlins or potentially the negotiations?

"We had a vision five years ago to turn the Marlins franchise around," Jeter said in a statement, "and as CEO, I have been proud to put my name and reputation on the line to make our plan a reality.

"That said, the vision for the future of our franchise is different than the one I signed up to lead. Now is the right time for me to step aside as a new season begins."

Yeah, it sure would be interesting to know why he felt the Marlins vision no longer matched his. For Miami, especially, I think it's valid for them to know why Jeter felt the need to make such a bold move. If the franchise is continuing to advocate for a non-competitive payroll, etc, or if it was just a difference in philosophies etc.

If I had to guess then I would imagine that Jeter wants to go all in and try and move the team to the next level by bringing in difference making free agents which would increase payroll.  Jeter has waited 5 years and he strikes me as someone who would want to be aggressive once a base is in place. 

The Marlins seem to have a decent rotation (around top 10) and they seem to lack offense (almost dead last).  If they got aggressive buying or trading for offense then they could have a formidable team next year.  I have to believe the org isn't doing enough fast enough in Jeter's view but that is just speculation on my part.

Jeter was expecting to have another $15M or so to spend on payroll and the controlling owners have decided they have no more to spend.

Jeter wants the Marlins to have a chance at winning more games than they lose. The owner wants the money. A simple disagreement. Different strokes for different folks. I wasn't surprised at all to see Jeter move on from that situation.

Considering Spotrac has the Marlins at a $88.5MM total projected payroll for 2022, that may be telling about the CBA. Did the $100MM floor go out the window? If it was still on the table, the Marlins would be in a spot which would require them to put in another $10-15MM.
