nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 For some dumb reason I counted, but there have been no fewer than 19 OL selected to the Pro Bowl each year since 2012. The Vikings haven’t had one since Matt Kalil went in his pretty terrible rookie year. 151 OL have been selected for the PB since; not a single Viking.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2021 Author Posted October 4, 2021 I would fire Zimmer on the basis that he dictated heavy investments to fix the run defense and has utterly failed at it. Either he can't utilize the talent he asked for or he's bad at choosing the talent. Either way the one defensive priority he set out to fix has been an utter failure. I can forgive a defensive coach who can't find OL. I can't forgive a defensive coach who gets run on for 150 yards a game.

Even O’Neill has been disappointing after getting payed.
LVTwinsfan Verified Member Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 I don’t care if we gained 25 yards. No passing on first down!

Back in the Williams Wall days opposing teams were lucky to get 1 yard before contact. Against our current cast of characters this year, RBs are getting 3-4 yards downfield before contact.

For all that beef we do seem to allow the point of attack to move the wrong direction a lot.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Danztler, who is vaccinated, tests positive for COVID. Hopefully, it's just asymptomatic but he might not be able to play Sunday.

Healthy or not, he'll probably be passive-aggressively tweeting about how insane it is that Breelund is still starting anyway.

What an awful decision, and whomever suggested bringing him should be fired.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 this isn’t going to help the struggling run defense…

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 Man, I was thinking that if the Vikings lose to Detroit at home, that would be the last straw for Zimmer. But who's going to replace him? Basically his whole tenure his staff was made up of a whos-who of former head coaches and well known coordinators. But now? Andre Patterson? He's in charge of the D-line which has been a huge disappointment. Rick Dennison? He's in charge of the OL which is even worse, and he's also a loony anti-vaxxer who should have stayed fired. Paul Guenther who ran the Raiders D into the ground last year? Ick. No way they go with Kubiak, he's only now learning to be an OC; they'd risk tanking the offense all together if they put too much on his plate. Zimmer has really set himself up to have a chance to ride out the season no matter how bad the team looks.

Zimmer has really set himself up to have a chance to ride out the season no matter how bad the team looks. There could be a scenario where Zimmer is fired if we lose to Detroit and Carolina. Then we head into the bye week with interim HC. Other than that, I think he stays on most if not all season as the lame duck coach. As far as his replacement, it’ll probably be Andre Patterson. But frankly, who cares? We’ll be in transition and find a new HC in the offseason. Potentially GM too since Rick and Zimmer are basically tied at the hip. This year has similarities to 2010 already. Roster full of older veterans who are underachieving, and a HC that looks defeated. Part of me is okay with seeing us bottom out so wholesale changes are made. Then again, if wholesale changes are made, we will also see a massive turnover with the roster and deal with some really bad seasons until things improve.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 Just read on The Athletic that Dalvin Cook plans to play through the pain with his ankle injury. Let’s hope further damage isn’t done to sap up his game changing abilities in the future. I’m always reluctant about giving RBs massive 2nd contracts, and was firmly against giving one to Cook on the other Vikings message board.

Especially against a terrible Lions team. The team is pretty poorly run if they use him in that game, imo. Also, signing him to that deal was not a good idea. I'd have traded him. 100%.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 And now Hand is on the COVID list, even though he is likely vaccinated as well. That's not good. I think some of our secondary players were pretty adamant about not getting the vaccine. Hopefully this doesn't start running through the locker room.

TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2021 Author Posted October 6, 2021 And if we move on? Joe Woods the DC in Cleveland and Brian Daboll the OC in Buffalo are my first calls.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 Looks like the Lions are going to be missing both starting tackles (Sewell and Decker) and their starting center Ragnow against the Vikings. Our DL should have a field day pressuring Goff. If they don’t, we’ve got problems.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 I see a huge blowout win for the Vikings, and some fans will think that means they are good .........
cHawk Community Moderator Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 If Hill sucks again Darrisaw needs to take over.

cHawk Community Moderator Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 I think this OL could be pretty good if they could realize that Hill and Bradbury aren’t getting it done and they put in Darrisaw and Wyatt Davis.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 No Dalvin Cook today. Ankle injuries for RBs are a killer. He’ll be a question mark every game this season.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Author Posted October 10, 2021 The run defense still sucks.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Have the Packers game here. The Bengals just went for it on fourth and three from the GB 45, give or take... Resulting in a touchdown drive. Zimmer would have punted.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 Great example. Stupid punt. It's just a long turnover.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 A bad team should almost never punt. Such bad coaching in the NFL.
cHawk Community Moderator Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 How about that, Darrisaw is on the field. And he didn’t look half-bad on that drive. Hope he lives up to the hype
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2021 Posted October 10, 2021 And instead of running out the clock.... Cincy goes for it, and scores in one play..... Their coach gets it.
