Douglas J Birdsell Provisional Member Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 You will be surprised at 11th round pick Brandon Birdsell. Projected to go possibly late first round early second round before injury. He may be first one of this draft for the Twins to reach MLB. jorgenswest, Seth Stohs and Squirrel 3

He can join all star Taylor Rogers as 11th round picks making an impact for the Twins.

Is there a correlation here that you have the same last name? ashbury and DJL44 2

Well, on Twitter he just announced he isn't signing, so probably unlikely to be the first one of the draft picks to make it to the majors for the Twins. Danchat 1

I can't imagine how difficult this decision must be for a player. Like you said, he was a likely Top 5 round pick guy until the rotator cuff injury. I'm sure the Twins wanted to get him for that $200K amount (or something a little bit over the $125K mark)... Getting to pitch one more year in college means something, especially at a school that always has a chance to get to Omaha, versus turning down $200K and becoming a senior sign. But, along with one more season, if healthy, he could be a Day 2 guy next year. Obviously, I'd like to think we all would agree that we want guys to stay healthy and do well. Hopefully that happens!! SteelDodo Verified Member Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 Well technically, Julien said that too. Then, the Twins made him an offer that he couldn't refuse. Since it appears that all of the draft picks besides Petty are likely candidates to be signed below slot, maybe we can do the same thing with Birdsell? His MLB.com profile said he was likely a top 5 round player if not for the injury, so I'd love to sign him! Dman 1

We shall see.

My guess is they offered him 200K or something and he is like well if I go back and do well I could get 300K or better. If I fall back down to 11 then I likely won't lose that much. So I can see him thinking\feeling he can have another fun year at college and likely increase his net worth to boot. Downside is he gets severely injured and maybe gets nothing but odds have to be low something like would happen. He thinks he should have gone around the 5th round so probably wants close to 5th round money. That would put him in the $300k to $400k category I assume the Twins weren't up for that? It is surprising because from what I was reading most teams make sure most of the guys in their top 20 are going to sign and they want to be sure all of their top 10 guys will sign. I would have thought the Twins would know what it would take to sign him. There had to be a number that would make it worth it to him. I wonder why that ended up being short?
twinkiesfan11 Verified Member Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 Has anyone read or heard of any assignments to the 2021 draft picks or that most will be shut down? Obviously a lot has changed with the reduction in teams, later draft, etc. Just seems like you'd start seeing some of these names showing up in box scores by now.
