Trov Verified Member Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Of the three players listed, I would say the only big miss was Anderson. The other two we do not really know yet how bad it may have been. Yes, Cave had terrible start on on 60-day, but you never make plans saying well this guy will get put on 60 day DL. If they knew that of course they cut him and keep Wade. Wade is doing pretty much as expected, it just turns out it was wrong call between the two, but not like at the time people were crying terrible decision. With Badoo I still say wait and see. Many rookies are flashes in the pan, not sayin he will be, but he was several spots down the depth chart on OF, and it was not expected a team would take him in rule 5 this year because his low numbers. Detroit said worth the risk and it may pay off for them. Again, he was not listed as a top prospect by any place, so if we missed on him on self-scouting so did every national scouting group for years, and every team that passed on him in draft. You could even spin it to say we did such a good job of scouting that we took him and we had too many good people to choose from. I am sure if it was a 45 man roster or maybe even a 42 Badoo would have made it.
Five minute major Verified Member Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Wow somebody got triggered. Do you watch the games? Cave looked clueless last year at the plate. Guess hitter. Wade looked confident and did a great job getting on base by working the count. Wade is the type of player the Twins need to supplement their power hitters. IMO it was an easy decision and I called it at the BOY when Cave was kept over Wade. This FO does have a scouting issue of their own players.

The Twins most likely were never going to call him up to the majors this year unless he put together some dominant numbers on the farm, and even then, he was buried on the depth chart. This is the same point I was going to make after reading the comments here. I'll add that I think even with all the injuries they've had Baddoo would still be in Wichita right now.
MMMordabito Verified Member Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 How many rounds is the Rule 5 draft? Two? Three if there are takers? Seems like 29 front offices missed twice (maybe three times) on the chance to draft Miranda. What a bunch of idiots! Mike Sixel 1

What should I be looking for so I can learn your ways of predicting future success? https://stathead.com/baseball/player-comparison.cgi?request=1&sum=0&player_id1=caveja01&p1yrfrom=2020&player_id2=wadela01&p2yrfrom=2020&type=b Mike Sixel 1
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 The only one of those that didn't make sense at the time is Nick Anderson. That was baffling. Baddoo? An A ball player with years of injuries? Someone thought a MLB team would keep him on their roster all year? Celestino isn't ready for the majors, but without multiple injuries, he wouldn't be. Way too early to say he's a dud.... I didn't get the Cave/Wade decision, but it is defensible. MMMordabito 1

Wade's first month of basically being a fulltime player (6/2021) = .250/.290/.473 Cave's first month of basically being a fulltime player (7/2018) = .313/.333/.500 Recency bias is exactly what this is. Cave is also only a year older than Wade. Using this decision to question the self-scouting of the FO is non-sense. Vanimal46 and Mike Sixel 2
