cHawk Community Moderator Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 I’m concerned about the playcalling. It can’t be anything like this during the season or this offense will be hot trash. On another note, Rashod Hill showed why he’s a career backup.

This is a concern with Vikings fans every preseason, they're calling the most vanilla plays. I don't know if Klint has what it takes, but I can assure you the gameplan is going to involve feeding the ball to Cook and then passing to Jefferson, Thielen, and Smith Jr. Hill has no business starting, but IMO they shouldn't have cut Reiff. He was our best OL last season. I still like Darrisaw but assuming rookies will be ready is always risky. They also need a veteran backup QB. Browning looks horrid and Mond looks raw.

Browning isn’t going to cut it. Mond will need time. As for the OL, the performances from Cleveland, Davis, O’Neill, Mason Cole, Udoh have been surprisingly good. Still need to see more from Bradbury. QB Play has been absolutely awful this preseason and it’s why they’re 0-2.

Yep, that’s why I find preseason worthless for fans. There’s no knowledge gained watching teams call 5-10 basic plays with some of the starters, then play the rest of the game with 3rd and 4th string players. Wake me up when the regular season starts.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 In the least shocking news ever, Griffen is a Viking again.

Given some of what his father says, I'd hope Griffen and others tell Kirk he's an ******* over and over. (assuming he agrees with his father, not everyone does, but it kind of looks like it)
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 Well....I'd rather have him that Weatherly and Wonnum all the time. More pass rushers the better, if he still has anything left.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 Here is my latest 53 man roster prediction:

Surratt has mostly practiced with the 3s and seems to be behind Dye and Lynch. Also, take this with a grain of salt, but PFF had Surratt as our lowest graded player on Saturday.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2021 Author Posted August 29, 2021 Whelp. Not exactly the news you want to read before week 1.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2021 Author Posted August 29, 2021 Also, do we have any indication whether Thielen’s injury is serious?

A meniscus tear isn't like a ACL or MCL, but it's still going to be a few week departure for him. And that's not to mention that Conklin has been hurt for weeks, and the TEs behind him are not very good. 21 minutes ago, Vanimal46 said: Also, do we have any indication whether Thielen’s injury is serious? All indications are that he will be fine. He'll be ready to play in two weeks. Also, just saw this: That's a fair bit of money for an older safety, but it really depends on how much guaranteed $$$ there is on the deal.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2021 Author Posted August 29, 2021 If the guaranteed money is in the first 2 years of that extension it’s all good. Next up, Brian O’Niell hopefully.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2021 Posted August 29, 2021 https://twitter.com/SKORNorth/status/1432051541255630854/photo/1 $26M out of $64M is guaranteed. Overall he now has 5 years and $74.8M remaining with just 35% of that guaranteed. That seems fair.

TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2021 Posted August 29, 2021 TE depth across the league is pretty good. That might be an area we see them swing a deal. You can't play 2 TE sets 98% of the time and field Conklin and Dillon in those roles.
cHawk Community Moderator Posted August 30, 2021 Posted August 30, 2021 Losing Irv Smith is quite a hit
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2021 Author Posted August 31, 2021 Big news of the day so far as teams trim to 53… Cam Newton released. Boy that would be a nice backup option.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2021 Posted August 31, 2021 If they think they might be a SB team, they should go for Cam.....but I doubt he comes to MN.

But in today's game with the War and Peace sized NFL playbooks and significant variances in systems and verbiage, I don't put much faith in a guy contributing who wasn't here all summer.
