AZTwin Verified Member Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 Wrong. It ultimately goes back to the bad cops. Not all cops, just the bad ones.So your stance is that if one or two people do a bad thing, the entire country should burn? Wow... anarachists need to take responsibility plain and simple. The we are getting justice for Floyd’s family by locking up the officers. Now it’s time to get justice for the lives lost due to the white liberal anarachists
Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted June 2, 2020 Author Posted June 2, 2020 I see why you like him. All cops aren't bad after all, right?Police officers are people. People come in all varieties. The concern from my perspective is laws and institutions designed to either protect the bad enforcers of the law or discriminate against people who the laws and rules are supposed to protect.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 So your stance is that if one or two people do a bad thing, the entire country should burn? No, my stance is that I am correcting your mistaken information about why there are curfews.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 All cops aren't bad after all, right? No. There’s no need to continue repeating this. Here is an article from 2016 from a former cop who says only 15% are bad. https://www.vox.com/2015/5/28/8661977/race-police-officer

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 I didn’t blame white liberals though. I blamed white liberal anarachists. There’s a differenceThere are a lot of groups at play here ... white supremacist groups, the extreme right, also have people in place. This isn’t just the left extreme ... it’s both extremes. It’s the extreme, period, who hide in the midst of protests, that are emotional, and touch the spark to the kindling, to sow violence and chaos. They commit their acts of violence then run and hide behind protesters who will then be blamed. They all have very dangerous agendas. So stop pointing your finger left ... it's both the far left and far right extremes.

Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 Did I say I did?Ha, no. I don’t know how anyone can corroborate the headline, though. It could have been umbrella man, young kid by himself out joyriding, or anyone. I’m not sure how much it matters at this point. There are lots of people out there at this point, on both sides of the spectrum, with lots of different motives, and the police are overwhelmed. The most peaceful streetcorner in our city is probably at 38th & Chicago, where the match was lit. There is grace in the world after all.
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 you could make a case that public servants in general are underpaid and that could be a detriment to efficacy of recruitment and retention strategies, but hundreds of years of history says this is more of a public apathy issue than it is an HR issue. I've been working along side public servants now for the better part of 7 years. I've done it at state, local, and federal levels across multiple branches in the DoD, DoJ, and IC... Just to add to it, my uncle was a Sheriff, my sister is a cop, and I have plenty of teachers/administrators in my family as well. This problem that you're highlighting is much bigger than really anyone realizes. You're correct that public servants are typically underpaid. There's also zero accountability, which is a big reason why it attracts who it attracts.. And I mean zero. People rarely get fired. They're more likely to get promoted so that they're no longer their supervisors problem, and plenty more get those jobs because it's their turn, not because they are qualified. I'm not trying to demean civil servants, as I've met plenty of good ones, but they are fighting a massive uphill battle while being underpaid and have no recourse to remove people have no business being in their roles. That culture is toxic due to a lot of incompetence in places where you don't want it. And I have seen that over and over and over again. You want to know why guys like Chauvin stay employed? That's why, and that problem is across the government, not just within police work. In police work, there's another problem. Anyone daring stand up is going to experience retaliation. My sister has received the brunt of that for a good chunk of the almost 20 years she's been on the force having to endure harassments (including sexual) for reporting bad behavior or quite frankly just being a woman on a mostly male force who had no intention of sleeping around with her peers. HR was even complicit, so her identity was never protected ensuring that she would bear the responsibility for reporting anything. When you ask why more don't stand up, think about that... I'm not saying they should continue ignoring people like Chauvin, but I am saying that the culture change that needs to happen is a bit more than just black vs. white.
ewen21 Verified Member Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 Ha, no. I don’t know how anyone can corroborate the headline, though. It could have been umbrella man, .Well now there you go. Umbrella man was supposed to be evidence that white nationalists were looting and burning things. That never made sense to me. Clearly the rioters squared with a radical, anti-law enforcement, anti-American flag, anti-capitalism agenda. White nationalists were the ones with the AR-15s and American flags on the steps of the capitol building in Michigan protesting Whitmer's stay at home order. It is important to be able to discern who is who. As unnerving and disturbing as white nationalists are they are not the people demonstrating against the police, wrecking police cars and burning American flag. Maybe Derek Chauvin was a white nationalist. HOWEVER, the actions and antics of these lunatics do not square with a white nationalist agenda. I am not picking a side here because I am absolutely freaking appalled with what I see. At first, I was totally down with what the protesters are doing, but I don't see where continued protests are for the greater good at this point. Time for a break and if people don't want to stop and want to loot and burn then green light law enforcement to take more extreme measure. People with stores and people not wanting large groups of people invading their neighborhoods have rights too. This country has both ends going against the middle and so many lies are being told on both sides. I am sick of it. This is about bad policing in communities where violent acts are committed daily. It is everyone's best interest both sides be a whole lot more honest about what they might need to address and how their actions affect the rest of us. I know it isn't so popular around here to call out both sides on this issue, but someone has to do it

There’s a differenceI get what you are saying, but I don't consider Antifa or radicals to be liberal. These folks are so far over on the spectrum that they can't be called liberal. What is stunning to me is that liberals by and large (at least here) justify the destruction these maniacs are leveling on American cities. How is that fair to anyone wanting to run a business or raise a family in these cities. How is it OK when at the time all this happened we were told to stay at home and practice social distancing? The actions of these people are literally insane. This is not a means to an end. The end result of this carnage will be that cities will take years and years to recover. Some may never recover. Detroit and Newark had riots in 1967 and neither city has bounced back. It is getting to the point now where the protesters need to assess the situation and take it to phase two. This is getting played. Start the actual healing process now.........and if not, then why not?

There needs to be a clear distinction made between the protesters and the rioters. At the same time I believe the protesters need to take a break and regroup. We have COVID-19 to deal with still. Stores have been destroyed without fires and looters and now they are being burned and or completely ransacked. This has to stop, law enforcement needs to step up and for that to happen the ones how have been protesting peacefully for over week now should get out of the way so that can happen.

But it has calmed down here.I know I have said it many times here, but don't live in Minnesota and never have. I live in upstate NY far enough away from the madness in NYC. I am so relieved to hear about things from people in the know. I have been to Minneapolis a dozen times and I love it. Last night I talked to a longtime friend who used to post on the mlb board years and years ago. HE is from Fridley, but lives in Denver now. We spoke for over two hours. My cousin John and his wife have lived in Manhattan for 25 years. I have done ZOOM with them a few times through COVID-19 and lucky for them they went out to their summer home in Fire Island (ironically enough) out on Long Island last weekend. They are still out there now. It was great to get a text and see pictures out there safely away from the madness. I was actually in Manhattan with my wife on February 22nd and that feels like a million miles away now. We took the train from Poughkeepsie. I am not sure when we will go there again.

I democrat could be conservative in some ways and republicans can have liberal traits. These extremes really are tearing the country apart. They have existed for very long time under the surface but with social media, streaming videos, etc.....it really has bled into the mainstream. I won't choose a side.
