gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 I think we had a thread on this a while ago but how much to you pay monthly for internet, cable, entertainment packages (Hulu, netflix, amazon, etc)? I'm in rural MN so I have limited options but I pay about $160 for internet, basic cable and netflix but haven't really been able to find a cheaper route.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Outside of Phoenix I pay about $140 for internet, Directv, and netflix. I could drop the dish but it wouldn't save me much, the internet is the bulk of that cost.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 $60 internet, $40 YouTube TV, $12? for Netflix currently. They're *supposed* to be installing Google Fiber in my neighborhood this year... Really crossing fingers they do so I can say bye to Spectrum forever.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 $75/mo for gigabit (lol, that's what they claim... more like 350-500mbps speeds) from CenturyLink. Moderately happy with them so far despite the speed discrepancy (still, I was paying $75/mo to Comcast before that for a 60mbps package so the overall upgrade is huge). I then subscribe to Netflix and Prime, rotating through BritBox, Hulu, AcornTV, and a few others as needed. All in all, I usually sit around $125/mo for all my entertainment, including a few movie rentals a month.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Centurylink is, by far, the worst company I have ever received services from for anything.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Prime, plus Netflix, plus the least cable I can get...only for the internet we use an antenna for over air tv. I somehow get HBO free still..... My son logs into his Hulu here too.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Centurylink is, by far, the worst company I have ever received services from for anything.Huh. About a year ago I switched to Centurylink ($45/mo price for life) for internet, and I couldn't be happier. Faster, way, way way more reliable, and half the price than my previous internet from cable.

Faster, way, way way more reliable, and half the price than my previous internet from cable. Which one did you switch from? I had centurylink manage to mess up two requests of mine in such ridiculous ways they'll never get my business again. And both were to stay as a customer! I asked to move my services and upgrade my services and both times they shut me off at 5:50pm, closed at 6:00, and then said "whoops" and took a week to rectify their stupidity. Seriously....shut me off the night I called to prearrange services for a move and then couldn't fix their own gaffe in a timely manner. (And required me to call about a dozen times)
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 As bad as service can be at times, I moved twice in Portland, entered something on a website, and my internet/cable were ready immediately in my new place both times. Simple, and effective.....Xfinity.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Centurylink is, by far, the worst company I have ever received services from for anything. My Comcast service had deteriorated to the point two cans and a string would have been better.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 As with Mike....I miss Comcast. That's a sad indictment of the service we are all getting.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 I'm a media junkie, so don't follow my lead, but here's what I do: Playstation Vue ($45), Netflix ($9), HBO (recently, cuz True Detective, soon Game of Thrones) ($15), all through Cox internet 10 GB ($45). Everything is kosher, but my wifi skitz out frequently, not sure if the modem or the ISP. I also do the CBS thing because I'm a ****ing trekkie, and Discovery is a cool take on the trek-verse. I try to only acquire subscriptions that can canceled through clicks and not calls, but we'll see

I've been sceptical since they laid an egg in the 2nd season. I think it's about that time to cancel Netflix and switch to HBO for GoT...
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 I find I don't watch a ton of Netflix, and have considered cancelling. Or maybe I should go make some money.....
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2019 Author Posted February 20, 2019 My kids love netflix. I'm torn on it but I'll probably keep it for now. I don't think other streaming services would be better, just different.
Doomtints Verified Member Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 The association fees for my condo pay for DirecTV for all of us, so I just pay $17 for an upgraded package. I have AT&T internet at 50GB for $80 or so, the best AT&T offers in the area. Comcast is big in Chicago but I don't want to use them. I wouldn't say I get anywhere near 50GB 90% of the time, but it's good enough to where there are no noticeable delays. We also have Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime for streaming.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 If you are in Minneapolis, keep an eye out for US Internet. Very fast and affordable fiber service.

But it's hard to complain about CenturyLink filling that gap for $75/mo, even if their "gigabit" is anything but. It's still miles better than Comcast dollar-for-dollar.
