tvagle Verified Member Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 Yes, a lot of things will have to go right for the Twins to even come close to this mark. The Indians will have to play around .500 ball the rest of the season, .526% (30-27) to be exact. Twins will have to go 39-18, a .684% mark. However, this isn't just about throwing a giant turd at the wall and hoping it sticks; a legitimate argument can be made for this run. The Magic Number Update Confirms those records would result in the Twins winning the Division
Doomtints Verified Member Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 To distill this down: The Twins can make things interesting by beating up on the division, yes. But it doesn't matter. The Twins would not last long in the playoffs.

ashbury Verified Member Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 I'm stupid. You're smart. I was wrong. You were right. You're the best. I'm the worst. You're very good-looking. I'm not attractive.Mrs Ash and I actually used to use that routine early in our marriage. Either of us would, when caught in a trivial mistake, rapidly recite, "you're right, I'm wrong, I stink, you're great." We wised up after a while.
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 Yeah, a team that has been sub .500 since mid April is going to all of a sudden play .700 ball for two months after trading away 2 of their 5 best relievers and 2 of their 5 most productive hitters.

No one thought that a bunch of rag tag kids from the Goon Docks could find the treasure that had evaded the great Chester Copperpot but it turns out they were wrong. #gooniesneversaydie
launchingthrees Verified Member Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 I like your style OP.The few paths we have left to make the playoffs probably include winning the next 2 games at home against Cleveland, then winning 3/4 in next weeks series against Cleveland. If they do that they'll have a puncher's chance. If they go .500 or worse against Cleveland in these 2 series then it's over. There just aren't nearly enough games to make up a 10 game difference. How cool would it be to sell off, add a bunch of prospects, AND have a pennant sweat in September?

Yes, the front office did a GREAT job of fielding a team that can beat Cleveland. However, this left them one-dimensional. Whoops.
