What are the Odds...?

The Twins have added four players to their organizational Top 30 in the last 24 hours.  Any chance this prospect build up is tied to another deal, perhaps after the season?  It's no secret that almost everyone on this site and elsewhere covet the Marlins backstop, Realmuto.  Word is that Miami is holding out for a windfall of prospective talent in return.  These recent moves seem to have put the Twins right near the top in terms of prospects.  Could this free them up to consider moving some of them?

Just wondering.

Realmutto, in my opinion, is a pickup if the front office thinks we can compete in 2019 and 2020. Not sure I pony up the prospects if they turn around and trade Gibson. If they keep Kyle and then use some of those guys to pick up Realmutto, then I tip my cap to them...

That said, none of the guys we got would be headliners in a Realmutto deal. I don't see any way Florida moves him without 1 or 2 top 100 guys along with some higher ceiling throw in options. The guys we picked up could fit the second part, but Jeter and company will pushing very hard for Lewis, Kirilloff, Gordon, or Graterol.

If the Twins can also dump Dozier, Lynn, Reed, and Rodney for a couple more prospects, Realmuto becomes a serious target.  We seem to be accumulating a lot of outfielders so I hope that is what Miami is looking for.

More than likely these recent additions would buffer against the loss of the higher tier prospects the Twins would have to send out to get the deal done. Obviously the replacements don't have the same shine but they would provide that oh so important "organizational depth," this club loves to have but never uses.

The thing I liked the most about these trades is that they went after higher upside pitching first and foremost but hedged their bets with more projectable position prospects.

I think these trades have no effect on a Realmuto trade. As others have mentioned these new prospects would be a toss in or a sweetener in that kind of BIG trade. None of these replace a Kiriloff or Lewis that would be required at the top of the package.

If you could get a deal for Realmuto headlined by Gordon, I think this would have already been done. Don't you? I don't know if I'd give up Kiriloff just yet.

While I would only offer one of them, Lewis is the only one on that list I would not be willing to deal for Realmuto.

I think that this front office has a plan.  And these 5 players picked up looks like they are part of that plan.  Two off them can be lights out closers (something that this organization does not have and has not had for a while) starting as soon as about a year from now.

Trading leaving FAs for prospects gives much more flexibility in the off-season than losing them for nothing.

For. Sure.

Kirilloff and Lewis are the only restricted prospects in my opinion.  Even restricting those 2, our farm system has way more than enough players to entice Miami.

If the Twins offered Nick Gordon, Stephen Gonsalves, Akil Baddoo, and Luiz Arraez for 2 seasons of Realmuto who says no?  Twins or Miami?

I feel like I have heard this "plan" before...

Let me think a minute...which of these 4, if any,  plus 2 of the 4 recently acquired  prospects, would I offer for 2 years of the best catcher in baseball?  Wait, wait...we have an answer...his initials are N.G. However  with Garver playing so well offensively, the need is not as great.  now as it was a month ago...or is it?

Miami, I think. They already have quite a few of that level of prospect. I think they are pretty clearly holding out for an elite prospect right now, and they still have plenty of time before they have to lower those sights (they can expect comparable offers as this up to next year's deadline, if not the following offseason).

For. Sure.

they'll have to push Burdi off closer and down to a setup role then, I guess.

Why would you ever give up Kiriloff? Especially for a *catcher*?

Agreed.  Kiriloff is untouchable right now.  Despite missing a full season, he's improved his numbers every step up the ladder while being a year or two younger than the competition.  You ride this pony until it bucks you.  Could be a very special player.
