Official count: Solo HRs vs multi run HRs

I only cared when the Twins ran this kind of streak the last time they did it... to start the 2016 season and the team was on its way to an 0-9 record.

Stats are fun but only sometimes do they lead you to causation. Right now, the team is rolling. Solo homers are a statistical aberration.

Something like this could also be tracked in a notebook, offline.

Seriously though, it's been three games. I'm not sure what the issue is. Too many solo homers? Not enough people getting on base constantly?

Just thought it’d be fun to track. We seem to hit a lot of them so wanted to see if it’s real or just in our mind. Maybe shaking the lineup up would solve some of it but yeah the numbers to start the year are fluky. And we’re killing it so all is good

How can there be any any two-run blasts when the bases are always empty because the last guy just went yard? :)

I'll take the 7 runs any way they can get them. Dozier hitting lead off and Mauer second doesn't help. Then Sano either Ks or goes yard so that leaves nothing for Rosario. Only 3 games in but if their biggest problem continues to be too many solo homers, look out Astros, Indians and Yankees.

I'm just wondering if they are sitting on fastballs when no runners are on. Tends to make some sense. Perhaps it's just luck...  I'd note though that we've had a few players over the years (Dozier in particular) who seemed to get a much higher number of solo shots than with guys on. I have to think this is more than luck.

So here's the real question. What is the record for consecutive home runs by team with no runners on? I've got to think at 7 straight solo HRs that we should be coming up on some sort of MLB record.

Not yet. Didn't the Giants have 16 or 17 straight solo homers just last season?

I think it's a reasonably interesting thing to track, especially if the streak lengthens from seven. What's probably more interesting is the question of whether batting order could offer more multi-run opportunities to the sluggers, although that's going to be a hard thing to nail down with any precision.

One thing about a 162 game schedule; and I remember Buck Showalter saying a couple of years ago, that you can't hide who you are as a team. The home run is a huge part of today's game as evidenced by last year when the Twins were over 200 but still only 9th. I just hope they continue to do well in that category solo or not because it is part of a winning formula.

It won’t let me edit the header.

Current count

Solo: 9
Multi run: 0

I think updates in thread like this will suffice. The ability to edit posts times out ... and I don't think you can edit titles at all. But I'll change the title to refelct it's an ongoing tally ... does that work? Because I don't want to change it for every solo home run throughout the season. :)

That works! Thanks!

Sure, that's a possibility, but this team ain't slow. It's not as if Buxton, Rosario, Kepler, or Dozier get on base that pitchers don't think about throwing a few more fastballs to keep them honest.

All in all, I think it balances out.

Why assume there is some underlying issue?

Does every single post have to be ...."AH-HA!  I found it.  This is the statistic that is the answer to...."
