gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Here's a list of the nominees for 2018. According to CNN, an artist had to release an album before 1992. Pretty ugly list. Bon JoviKate BushThe CarsDepeche ModeDire StraitsEurythmicsJ. Geils BandJudas PriestLL Cool JMC5The MetersMoody BluesRadioheadRage Against the MachineRufus featuring Chaka KhanNina SimoneSister Rosetta TharpeLink WrayThe Zombie If I had a vote (I don't) I'd vote for Depeche Mode and Rage Against the Machine. Dire Straits, maybe. I was surprised that Nina Simone wasn't already in.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Radiohead. Radiohead. Radiohead. but it is hard to imagine something "famous" I care less about.... My next choice would be Eurythmics, but that's personal. Not sure they are R&R HOF worthy.... Is XTC in?
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Bon Jovi would be my vote in the old thread "What are bands, TV, movies that people love, but you think is terrible?" Your three votes would be mine as well. They all had more than a few shredders. Radiohead is the most overrated band of all time.

Old Radiohead when they used guitars is great. new Radiohead drives me insane with rage.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2017 Author Posted October 5, 2017 XTC is not in the HOF Also, this quiz is very hard.https://www.sporcle.com/games/g/rockrollHOFinductees

GCTF Verified Member Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Warren Zevon, John Hiatt, John Prine. This RR HOF stuff is easy.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 I would never think of Nina Simone as Rock and Roll. Jazz/Blues/Soul.
drjim Provisional Member Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Don't think they have the depth of songs, but I'll throw some love out for The Zombies.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2017 Author Posted October 5, 2017 I would never think of Nina Simone as Rock and Roll. Jazz/Blues/Soul.True but she's really influential which was sorta one of the things the HOF was supposed to honor. I think she'd be a fine addition.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Old Radiohead when they used guitars is great. new Radiohead drives me insane with rage. It only took us 2.5 years to find something we're complete opposites of! Creep is a good song. The rest of their catalog does absolutely nothing for me.

Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 I totally get that. Not everyone is cultured Speaking of culture, need to get The Moody Blues in there.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2017 Author Posted October 5, 2017 Speaking of culture, need to get The Moody Blues in there.Oh my god, no. Do we want Bread in there, too? Where's Alice in Chains?
Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Old Radiohead when they used guitars is great. new Radiohead drives me insane with rage.Bingo. Pablo Honey is my favorite.

Bark's Lounge Verified Member Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 The R&R HOF is a crock of ****. I doubt Radiohead or Rage Against the Machine want anything to do with it... I hope that is the case. Bon Jovi on the other hand...
Bark's Lounge Verified Member Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 MC5 as well. They were the first "**** you" band with the right ideas. Should have listed them first.
Bark's Lounge Verified Member Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 "OK Computer" is legendary!
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Radiohead is the most overrated band of all time. That would be very, very wrong. Most influential band of my lifetime. Popularity can often mean oversaturation, but it doesn't always equate to bad music. Radiohead continued to evolve never repeating the kind of music that made them successful initially. From Creep/Pablo Honey (arguably their most 'pop' album) to the Bends to OK Computer to Kid A/Amenisiac, they changed their approach to what made them successful. Arguably, their more recent work lacks the same imagination and splendor, but it's still all good and inventive (King of Limbs, Hail to the Theif, etc.)
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 I would never think of Nina Simone as Rock and Roll. Jazz/Blues/Soul.Exactly. I read her name and went, 'Wait, what?'
Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 I will echo Bark's crock of **** remark. However, since it exists, I'll just say that OASIS should be in before Radiohead.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 However, since it exists, I'll just say that OASIS should be in before Radiohead.Sarcasm I hope.
Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Sarcasm I hope.OASIS are awesome.
Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 I'm really running out of ways to say this: I like OASIS. They are a really good band. Probably the most influential rock band from the U.K. from the 1990s.

Probably the most influential rock band from the U.K. from the 1990s.It's cool that you like them, but I don't think they have anywhere near the artistic and cultural cache as Radiohead, who is also from the U.K. As one example, Rolling Stone ranking the best 90's albums has Radiohead's Ok Computer as the 3rd, and the Bends as 21. Oasis has Morning Glory as 34, and Definitely Maybe as 78. Radiohead also ranks as their 73rd greatest artist of all time. Nirvana was the only other 90s rock band I spotted on the list at 30. I know Rollingstone is just one source, but if you can find some legitimate or articulate rag/blog that agrees with your assessment, I'm amenable. (Part of my incredulity is when I was growing up, Oasis was synonymous with a token pop rock band, that signaled bad taste; of course, that's just immature talk, but it colored my perception. And I honestly didn't know others really dug their stuff.)
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Dire Straits. Done and done.
Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Dire Straits. Done and done. That wasn't so hard, now, was it?

Certainly not how I'd have arranged them but there are some all-time classics on that list that are, frankly, too low - Automatic for the People, Metallica, Superunknown,Violator, Janet, Blood Sugar Sex Magik ... man, memories. And no Alice in Chains? WTF?
