That's exactly what happens to teams that need offense to win. Of the big three, pitching, defense and offense, the most variable by far is offense.

Dick recites Escobar's season stats - 4 errors committed in 118 games playing three positions, 19 home runs, etc.  Can a utility player be any more valuable to a team?

 

Why don't they have a utility player of the year award?  Basketball has 6th man and football honors special teams players. Baseball should honor those guys who get the spot starts, pinch hit in key situations and are the late inning defensive replacements that round out a high quality team.

 

Escobar and players like him deserves some recognition for the contributions he has made to their teams.

Me: Did you read that question right? 

 

Pollster: Yes

 

Me: Read it again

Me: Do I have the options of Very Seriously in the right direction or just simply the wrong direction? 

 

Pollster: No you do not. 

 

Me: Can you tell me who commissioned this research?  

 

Pollster: I'm sorry... I don't have that information. 

 

Me: If I understand the phrasing of the question... You want me to say seriously wrong direction so go ahead and put that down.
