August 21st is a double header at guaranteed rate field between the White Sox and the Twins. That's where I'll be, day 1 of 28 days of vacation.

Well, I live VERY close to peak area, but my wife and I don't have a firm plan yet. There is a tiny chance she's out of town! If she's out of town, I might go to the minor league baseball game that has an event for it. The winery I thought about going to is already sold out, I believe.

Glasses for viewing are cheap on Amazon, stock up.

 

I will spend the weekend in St. Louis and trek south a bit to see the whole thing.

We are going to Lincoln Nebraska the day before, then to a viewing site depending on local weather conditions. Figure we could go anywhere from Grand Island to St. Joseph MO.

the one thing I'm still somewhat successfully holding onto at work during a series of major transitions.....may require me to travel on August 21 of this year......which even if I can stay for the eclipse, might suck, as more than 1MM people from out of state are descending on OR that day....

Part of the reason I decided against traveling for it; going to be nuts.

The cities are basically warning people that emergency vehicles won't be able to get around that day in parts of OR, due to all the traffic...

The thread? You might develop a strange desire to learn all about General Relativity and Dark Energy. Which can get pretty expensive and time-consuming, lemme tell ya.

It's cloudy in Chicago. And I don't have any protective eye ware. So, even if the clouds did allow us to see something, I wouldn't be able to look anyway. Can you look for a second without damage?

Not worth the risk. Watching the live NASA broadcast is pretty amazing, too. They're going to get a stream from the ISS, too.
