More bullpen changes coming

Anyone else surprised roster moves weren't made after the game? I would have to presume that Rosario, Wimmers and Breslow are no gos for today. Boshers maybe 1 inning. That's kinda leaving the Twins with only Duffey that can go more than 1 inning.

I suppose moves are possibly in the works that we just haven't heard about. After all, they didn't announce a replacement for Polanco, but we know there will be one.

Falvey has probably already seen that Molitor won't be using any call ups even if the bullpen has been abused.

Maybe he's going to work in a counter-intuitive way and call up guys after a start where the bullpen was able to recover. If they send a couple of guys down after a loss like last night and Falvey knows that Molitor won't use the replacements, then the few BP guys that remain are going to be even more taxed the next game.

Chris Gimenez has now pitched as many innings as Jason Wheeler got before getting the ax and has pitched more than Tepesch and Rosario. I wonder if he'll end up with more than Wimmers and Rucinski.

I really hope is K/9 improves though.

Who will be the latest round of reinforcements? I have to believe that Wimmers and Rosario will be sent out. Hildenberger and Busenitz finally? Hildenberger can give length. So can Busenitz, actually.

I don't see how Hildenberger and Busenitz could do worse... Rosario has some promise, but completely over matched right now.

And this is the manager that we're entrusting to develop young players?  At this rate, the call ups are going to have to be prospect types and they're going to have to pitch at some point.  I fear that you're on to something there though and it's discouraging.

I think we need to consider stretching Gimenez out for multiple inning duty

We are all still waiting for Rosario to make his debut.

Molitor clearly won't use call ups or prospects.

Randy Rosario has pitched in two games already, including last night where he allowed 5 runs in 1/3 of an inning.  Let him get back on the horse soon and see what he learned from it.

I agree with your greater message though.  I don't think he wants to use younger players if he can help it.

That is not my message. He'll use anyone who has talent. Such as in his everyday lineup. But he is hesitant to throw young guys into higher leverage situations than they need to be in. And rightfully so.

I have trouble criticizing Molitor for not doing something that he literally has just done.

The sentiment is that he doesn't do it unless he's basically forced into it.  Playing those players now and then doesn't constitute typical usage.  Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and again.

We've had these discussions before and we're not going to agree philosophically, so I have little interest in rehashing past debates.

I know that's the sentiment for some/many around here, but I find it to be wrong with a fair look at his record. I agree it's probably not best to rehash that debate, but I haven't found an example of an actually talented young player that he has refused to use in a normal role. All the argument centers on marginal prospects or AAAA guys.

Overall, I don't care that much either way if they get rid of Molitor, but I wouldn't expect much difference in anything if they brought in a new manager. They'll be as good as the players they have.

I don't understand the "Molitor only plays veterans" thing. I'm betting that if I bothered to research this, I would find this to be "fake news" and upon providing the evidence people would ignore it and carry on with the narrative anyway.

Molitor hasn't been given superstars during his entire tenure, possibly excepting Hunter. He plays what he's got, and everybody has been given enough rope to hang themselves. The Twins had 28 pitchers last year and at least 20 of them were pitchers of zero reputation. He also gave James Beresford 10 games in spite of the fact that he will never amount to a hill of beans -- Beresford knew that, Molitor knew that, and the front office knew that.

It's pretty much impossible that Molitor sits behind his desk every morning and thinks, "I can't play this guy, he only has 2 years of MLB experience." I would bet nearly anything that Molitor doesn't think this way. He coddlies ROOKIES, sure, but so does every team, and that's not a negative on Molitor but a positive.

Under normal circumstances where the team didn't just come off of a 103 loss season, I'd agree with you completely.  I don't feel that this is a typical scenario.  That's the difference for me.

Twins radio propaganda post-game team talking about how shocked they are that Kintzler surrendered a home run, and how terrible the offense was tonight after the 5th inning.

I was long asleep when it happened, but I was pretty shocked too to read about the ending.

I would rather the post-game discussion began: "Kintzler couldn't put away those last batters. Your thoughts."

Molitor later admitted as much, so there's that.
