gocgo Verified Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Maybe these Springsteen lyrics will best describe our Twins - "Show a little faith, there's magic in the night. You ain't a beauty, but hey, you're alright". Riverbrian, Joe A. Preusser, Mike Sixel and 1 other 4
Jerr Verified Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 (edited) I'm right there with ya. Of course, I've never seen the live show. Don't try and make this argument with a Boss fan until you've seen the show. It disqualifies you from making an argument at all. On that note: 3-hour sets? No thanks. I like a tight 60 minutes, personally. I saw him live in St. Paul Minnesota and the show went almost 4 hours, but felt like a 60 minute tight set....best I ever saw. And in the Winter on a very cold night...took several scary starts of my car to get back home.Good songs, bad politics, but concerts back then? He was the best!!!! And grackles???? Are they the same birds in the trees in Chicago that create the "hum or buzz". As, I never heard that sound before, until when I was there. Edited April 24, 2017 by Jerr Riverbrian 1

Jerr Verified Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 I had to put on Springsteen on Pandora.....Hungry Heart first up, another good one!!! Mike Sixel 1
Jerr Verified Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 hmmmm, that buzz is probably insects.Cicadas was what I thought at that time. Grackles got me wondering Riverbrian and Mike Sixel 2
Blake Verified Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 hmmmm, that buzz is probably insects.A couple of years ago, I was out doing some target practice and there was an incredibly loud humming sound down the whole firing line. I finally realized every single tree on the line had thousands of bees around it. Never seen anything like it before or since. It was cool and a bit scary all at the same time. bird Verified Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Some Texans are pleasant to be around! Also, don't hate on braised Raccoon off the side of the road until you've tried it! I suppose you're right, Vanimal. The Branch Davidians are a fun group for example. I'll keep an open mind about braised racoon. Do you have a favorite roadside diner to recommend? Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Pandora mixes in others, so got out my CD "The Essential Bruce Springsteen", all Boss here Using PRIME music, it's all Bruce. First song: Born to Run. It's good a good hook, and good guitar lines. I actually kind of like this one up to the bridge, then I lose interest for some reason. Expect too many reports, maybe even song by song. Riverbrian 1

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Song 2:I'm on Fire. I should like this. It has everything I usually like in a song. Maybe I've heard it too much, but "meh" is my review. Glory days:So, apparently PRIME is playing THE HITS for me.....this song has always seemed like a rip off of songs from the 70s to me. Born in the USA:As I said, I love that this song sounds right wing, but is really left wing. I think what I don't like is that this personifies his "yelling" style of singing. Having now listened to 4 songs, I think that's it. Riverbrian and Jerr 2

bird Verified Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 And grackles???? Are they the same birds in the trees in Chicago that create the "hum or buzz". As, I never heard that sound before, until when I was there. Could be, Jerr. But only if it's a really harsh, toneless, almost metallic buzzing sound. Like Springsteen's music. Kidding. Emmylou Harris's cover of Racing in the Street is nice. Texas Grackles in chorus create more of a rattling sound rather than a buzz, and they build things up to where the sound has been described as that of a flushing toilet. No kidding. Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Dancing in the Dark: this song always bored me. Pretty soon, all of this album will be done, and we'll move on..... Looks like Secret Garden and Rosalita are next.... Secret Garden:Did I know this song? Feels like I should. I like this one. I might have to save this one. Rosalita:Strong opening, but too much like some of his songs.A bit of the yelling style, but not like his later music. There is still some singing here. But, you know right away it is a SPRINGSTEEN SONG, which doesn't help me love it. Biases and all...It's too LONG! seven minutes? Only a classical movement should be this long. Will it ever end? What's with this organ thing in the middle as the bridge? Or is it a guitar only on the high strings? For some reason I can't get XRAY lyrics for this one, but I do like the lyrics.Ah, now we are in full on YELLING STYLE in the 2nd half. A good song, ruined by being too long and too much yelling. Not sure I can make it 90 seconds more, but for you, I will..... Riverbrian and Jerr 2

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Hungry Heart: the pablum Springsteen, seems like it should be good, but it's empty. Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Tenth Avenue Freeze Out:could be titled: If you've never heard Springsteen, this is Springsteen. And yet, I almost like this one. I think it's the nearly, but not quite, bluesy aspect. Streets of Philadelphia:You don't hear an opening like this for most of his songs....nice.Trying hard to be a poet on this one, and it works, I think.apparently I like the simple songs. Ok, gotta work again..... nicksaviking and Riverbrian 2
