At least we have something to talk about. Like how does a pitcher with 14 first-place votes lose to a pitcher with only 8? Could the TIgers have found the resources to keep Verlander, Porcello and Scherzer together in Detroit? What pro athelete really has the most supportive wife and or girlfriend?

Porcello is a good choice.  He's worthy.  He's not the best choice, or the most worthy, but deserving. Really between Porcello, Kluber, Verlander and Sale, it was really close.

 

Notice that two voters didn't even list Verlander at all.

Not necessarily bad blood, but they only saw Verlander pitch once this season against the Rays. Between the two they chose Porcello, Sanchez, Britton, Happ, and Tanaka from the AL East. Sale and Kluber were I believe the only non AL East starters chose by those two. Also one of the writers did submit his ballot a week before the season ended.

Not all that strange. The guys who have ballots seldom have them still on the last day of the season from the ones I've talked to. I know within the IBWAA there were guys posting their ballot two days after the ballot came out (something like 2 weeks ahead of the end of the season).

Nobody ran away with it by being utterly dominant this year (ERAs all over 3.00) so it's hard to accept any griping over the winner between the 3-4 candidates who are deserving. Verlander probably earned it in my mind, and losing with 14 first place votes is annoying, but you don't automatically win if you can't separate from the pack.

 

But Kate Upton, that was great.

I side with Chief because I'm pretty sure Kate Upton is the one who decided this relationship would exist. That said, Justin Verlander should be beyond grateful.
