Berardino: Park determined to prove he belongs

Mike Berardino wrote an article on Byungho Park, noting that he was embarrassed with his first season.

“He’s embarrassed, but he’s not giving up,” a Twins official said. “He wants another shot to show what he can do. He’s all in.”

Also in the link, Berardino provides an update on Eddie Rosario's thumb.

Also, he learned that Brian Dozier is receiving strong consideration for the WBC.

Several more updates as well.

I really hope his wrist injury was the reason why his production was what it was.  I think we all knew the strikeouts would be there.  I just hoped for a little more out of him.

Park didn't make South Korea's WBC team? That seems weird.

And if the choice comes down to Kipnis or Dozier, I think that's a pretty easy decision to make.

I don't want to start another "never should brought him in because we already have too many 1B/DH types" arguement. I'm just asking a question.

Is there room for all 3 of Mauer, Vargas and Park on the roster?

I mean, you could go 4 OF, 4 INF, 2 C and keep all three of them. One is a DH, one starts at 1B, and the odd man out gives you a good bench bat but limits flexibility.

If the CBA expands the roster keeping the 3 sure has better odds; assuming they don't stack the bullpen.

None of the three of them have strong enough bats to make this worth it.

I don't want to be one of those "hate to say i told you so" people, but it's impossible to avoid the conversation.  One thing Park did do well was strikeout like crazy.  IMO he's a distant third in the trio of Mauer, Vargas and Park.

It's good that Park is willing to work hard to prove he belongs on the team.  Let's hope he realizes that there are 50-100 other players trying to prove the same thing and he uses that to go the extra step.

I'm wondering if Park had that wrist injury earlier and just didn't tell anyone.  At the end with the Twins, his AB's were pretty awful.

There was no question he had the injury earlier. The question was whether his downfall in MLB was related to that, pitchers adjusting, or a bit of both... and if it's both, how much was the wrist a factor.

Park gets a second shot, and I'm fine with that. He was looking like a steal in April. We tend to forget that given the horrid month we had, but I think it would be foolish to sell low there.  He may have to earn it (that's fine), but I'd like to see him get plenty of opportunities to do so.

Park looked good for awhile there, then took a dive.  Nothing to loss in giving him another MLB shot.

Really, really hoping last year was just a sophomore slump for Rosario.  He's really fun to watch [sometimes the bad stuff was hilarious!] and hope this is a big year for him.

P.S.    Joba freaking Chamberlain ???

P.S.S   Get well soon Larry !

Rosario was bad in April/May last year, along with the rest of the team.  He was good from July on after he rejoined the team.  That's not a bad sophomore slump.

April / May - 25.6% K/rate  2.5% BB/rate

July - Sept - 25.8% K/rate 3.9% BB/rate

The difference?  A .387 BABIP from July to end of year.

Smoke and mirrors
