Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 I'm writing one for each player on the Twins 40-man roster as of the end of the season on Cold Omaha, and I thought I'd share them here to hear if anyone has any gripes. First up, Andrew Albers
Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted October 13, 2016 Author Posted October 13, 2016 Secondly, Jose Berrios
Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted October 13, 2016 Author Posted October 13, 2016 Next, Buddy Boshers
Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted October 13, 2016 Author Posted October 13, 2016 Then, J.T. Chargois. Chargois has been my favorite one so far.
Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted October 13, 2016 Author Posted October 13, 2016 And now the one I posted tonight, Pat Dean. The goal is to do one of these per day until the entire 40-man roster is complete. That should end with Miguel Sano sometime in early December.
Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted October 13, 2016 Author Posted October 13, 2016 Weekdays only, sorry.
The Wise One Verified Member Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Albers and Dean are what they are. Disaster plans. Their performance was about what you should expect from the pedigree. There needs to be some sort of better way to describe reliever effectiveness. I am sure there is a double secret equation that teams use. Inherited runners scored should factor in it. Blown leads, blown ties are much more important than era. What percentage of the time is the reliever effective.
diehardtwinsfan Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Anyone have a list of the guys that need adding to the 40 man this offseason?
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Next, Buddy Boshers It would be a mistake to let Boshers go? Not sure about that. The Twins need to be in full rebuild mode, and this means that 29 year old Boshers, who actually pitcher pretty well for a dumpster dive acquisition and the A- grade is fitting within that context, has no place in the team because pitchers like Mason Melotakis, and even Cam Booser and Mike Theophanopoulos who have been moving way too slowly in the organization need to potentially have a chance to show whether they belong in the long term discussions. They will be 26, 25, and 24 years old next season, thus they belong to the same age argument you make for Chargois

Keep the half they want to get a better look at. Next year, prune anyone remaining who has not performed up to expectations. Harsh but the Twins need a near complete turnover with the pitching staff and there's just no point in delaying the inevitable.

So you keep Boshers until they're ready. And frankly, if Boshers pitches like he did last year again next year, he has trade value. Maybe more than Abad, due to years of control. As I noted, Boshers outpitched guys who got multi-year deals for lots of cash -- relative to value -- so there's a reason to keep him, even if it's just to flip him.
Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted October 13, 2016 Author Posted October 13, 2016 ....and if he stinks it up, DFA him in June.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Several teams have started DFAing several of their players from the 40 man roster. I assume the Twins will wait until Derek Falvey takes over to do that, unless someone Falvey wants them to claim comes up.

Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Rob is GM in name only right now, I'm afraid. And this is causing fear? One should rejoice
Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted October 13, 2016 Author Posted October 13, 2016 And now, Tyler Duffey

Also won't argue a couple of our arms, notably RP need quicker rising opportunities. But you still need a couple guys, like Boshers around to begin the season, then trade or release.
Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted October 14, 2016 Author Posted October 14, 2016 Today, Kyle Gibson.
ashbury Verified Member Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 Today, Kyle Gibson. You grade generously, you big softy.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 You grade generously, you big softy. Hey, I know at least one person who would say that Gibson had a "solid season"
Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 Here's Brandon Kintzler.
Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 And forgot to post Phil Hughes here, too.
jimmer Verified Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Hey, I know at least one person who would say that Gibson had a "solid season" James Shields? :-)
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Here's Brandon Kintzler. Cannot disagree with that A-. He made himself just a tad more $ than when he used to server ice cream. Good for him. Can the Twins trade him for a decent prospect? If yes, they should do it. If no team values him that much, the Twins should neither, and let one of the kids (some of them will be 26 next season) take his spot, and non-tender him. Bottom feeding should be no more.
Brandon Warne Verified Member Posted October 19, 2016 Author Posted October 19, 2016 Hey, here's Yorman Landa
ashbury Verified Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 And forgot to post Phil Hughes here, too. While I can see the logic behind the grade, I was expecting to see "Incomplete".
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Hey, here's Yorman LandaNo doubt a fringe player on the 40 man. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Falvey cuts him loose this winter.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 No doubt a fringe player on the 40 man. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Falvey cuts him loose this winter. Quick: Pick one: Brandon Kintzler, Yorman Landa, or Michael Tonkin
