Sept Calls / AZ Fall League

KLAW had a recent insider piece, stating that teams are NOT using September call ups to assess minor leaguers, or to give them "get acquainted" time anymore (mostly).

There are several reasons......

Now, the Twins don't necessarily follow the rest of the trends.....

What I'd do:

Garver in MN (needs to be added to 40 man)

Milone in MN (they need a long man, either him or Albers)

Not sure who else needs to be added to the 40 man, honestly

Garver and Walker September call ups, with Aaron Slegers, Ryan Eades, Stuart Turner, and Daniel Palka rather than Granite to the AFL since I've seen enough of Granite to know he's going on the 40 man roster but uncertain on Palka. Heck, if Buxton isn't coming back for September (I hope he is) maybe Granite gets a call up and audition in CF.

We don't need Milone as a long man, although at this point it looks like the Twins will be hanging onto arbitration guys until they have to make that decision in the of-season.

If you need long men, you use Dean, Albers or cycle Duffey into the role and see if he can do better and put him in that category for next season.

Sadly, no one shall make the jump from Chattanooga to the Twins this callup period.

But can't wait to see if anyone is kept down on the farm with no callup (Buxton or Vargas, maybe even Berrios). If so, that is sooooooooo sad. And please, please, please bring up Wheeler. And figure out a way to get Walker and Beresford up here.

Daniel Palka has to be considered a lock for the 40 man.

1.19 era in over 2 months at AAA, 30+ innings

Deserved to be called up before Albers, Dean, Wimmers etc....if promotions were actually based on performance

If Berrios doesn't get the call, and the rotation includes Dean and Albers for the last month... I can't even...

Why?  Berrios has been bounced around enough.  There is something to be said for not bouncing him yet again.  I say let the kid rest his arm a bit and send him to the winter leagues.

Would calling up any of these players start their service time and would that effect a year of options by recalling them?

Jose Berrios
Byron Buxton

John Ryan Murphy

Kennys Vargas

Jose Berrios - Rest his arm, have him play in the winter leagues.  He has been bounced around too much.
Byron Buxton - Ditto
Tyler Duffey - Call up
Yorman Landa - He is far too raw.  Not even close to ready.
Adalberto Mejia - He's not ready, but may as well call him up to get his feet wet.
Mason Melotakis - Ditto.
John Ryan Murphy - Call him up.  Not expecting much, but he has to play as much as he can and he has been in the minors most of the year.
Byung Ho Park - Down for the count in 2016.
Randy Rosario - He is far too raw.  Not even close to ready.
Kennys Vargas - Call him up.
Adam Brett Walker - Call him up.

If the Twins do not plan to re-sign Suzuki at a lower salary for 2017, then bring up Garver.  Otherwise leave him where he is so they don't mess up the roster.

He's only thrown 140 innings. He needs to learn how to pitch to MLB hitters, and there's no better time to do that than now.

1) That's the problem. Still waiting on both a new President and GM- there's no one there now entitled to make a "plan" for Suzuki.

2) Speaking of problems, this roster is already a mess, pretty easy to remove any or all of 1/4 of the current roster- which would serve to actually immediately improve the 2017 team. Time to cull the herd once again.

6 call ups, no Palka...  31-32 man roster seems a little extreme to me.  Let em finish the playoff run.  I'm beyond caring at this point.

How is Berrios supposed to rest his arm in the winter leagues? Is he just going to go as a cheerleader?

And, unless the state of Georgia is part of the Caribbean now, I'm not sure what winter league you think Buxton is going to play in.

DJ Baxendale will be 26 this year. Even if he stayed up for good, he'd be 33 years old before he hit free agency. I don't think starting his clock is an issue.
