Mismanagement

In other words, Meyer is brought up to be the mop up guy.

Don't we have a half dozen or more marginal pitchers on the 40 man who can fill that role, instead of a guy with ace upside who might finally be figuring it out in his last option year?

If Molitor is afraid of using young guys and is not remotely interested in breaking them in, I could not think of a worse manager for this franchise right now.

Yeah, not too excited about the timing of bringing him up or how they're planning on 'NOT'' using him. He was dominating as a starter and getting his confidence back. If they're going to bring him up to not use him in any meaningful role, just leave him to keep it going in AAA. What is he to them?

Adding a potential 35 HR guy is awesome but it makes no sense to have 4 guys best suited for the same position.  (arcia, mauer, park & sano)  Its bad roster construction - doubly so since Moliter has said he wants a fast team that keeps the pressure on.  Right now they are a station-to-station team with an OF full of guys  playing out of position and some fly ball pitchers.

Its a bad mix of players.

oh come on, like anyone was expecting Arcia to come back to form. I was an Arcia believer since he was in A-ball and i still was giving up on him. front office didn't bank on him starting.

I will file "we can't trade a 2.5 WAR 3b for a good reliever" along with "we could not sign or trade for a good reliever this off-season without doling out a 3 year, $18 million deal"

I am not saying you said the reliever part. But that was the view of some. I think we could have but were too stubborn to trade Plouffe for a reliever

The parameter changed from shutdown to merely good reliever.

A poor team with a lights out middle reliever wants prospects.  A good team short of an even league average 3b are hard to find.   At best Plouffe would be a mild upgrade.  There would be a good  case to be made for the Yankees.  You are not going to get Betances for Plouffe,   even if you throw in Fien,  You might get Shevre or Nova.  I doubt they even fit the  good  7th   inning parameter.   That is what makes your original scenario a myth.

I don't see how Mauer, Plouffe, Sano, Arcia, Rosario, Kepler, and Park can all fit on the same roster.

I know it's possible to draw up a 162-game rotation plan. Before anybody does that, just keep in mind that the Twins do not like platooning.

You are starting with a false premise.  That being Kepler must be here.  Take him out of the equation and its not nearly so hard.  Plus, there was a lot of bit(#1ng about the bench.  Now its a problem if we have good bench players.

Here is the bigger problem with you complaint.  Would you rather Arcia failed or that they had not given him a chance?   Had they given him a chance without a good ball-back-position, you would be complaining about that too.

I am confident had we targeted a good 7th or 8th inning guy or a really good reliever at AAA on the cusp this off-season we could have found a reliever at least as good as the top two we have for Plouffe. Maybe not Betances, who is top 10. We would have a better team as a result, which should be the objective over getting "equal value" or "a fair price", which are subjective.

And with Sano, Mauer, Park, and Plouffe going for three spots (1b, DH, 3b), Plouffe is the clear odd man out.

Sano is not a right fielder.

Four players into three slots is actually a pretty easy platoon.

The odd man out is also likely the first pinch hitter, so what's the problem?

Having one or more of these guys play an extra position is even better.

Generally yes.  But we aren't platooning Joe Mauer and we certainly are not platooning Miguel Sano.

Park has a four year deal and looks like he has much more upside with his bat than Plouffe.

Well, is there the possibility that Danny Santana will return as our centerfielder of the future. At least for another year?

Sano looks good at third base, especially when he runs to the side of second for the shift, then back again. Only one chance in his last game at third. I just question if Plouffe IS here for another 1.5 years. He gets overly expensive next year, and then the Twins MIGHT jsut lose him. Better to trade him now and let another team worry about final year of arbitration and free agency? Or do you resign him for a longterm contract, a la Dozier.

Wow. The parameter changes again for what to accept in trade. The problem of what team would want Plouffe for his 2 years before free agency.  Is Jim Hoey's clone available

The better team argument. If the Twins essentially gave away Arcia so Kepler could play you would be fine with that as it could give the Twins a better team.
