Prince

What I brought to wear wasn't insufficient enough, so they handed me a skirt to try on.

Great story. Made that minor fix for you.   :)

Yes this is all a lot to take in. He was so original and did his own thing. He is an ass for not sharing his material but there were so many other reasons to love him. So talented. I like how he just started showing up random places and playing gigs unannounced. It's probably the only way he could perform in public at that point. My favorite Prince music can't be played on the radio (sorry Current), which is another thing I love because I bet it gave his labels **** fits, at least at the beginning. Uncompromising with his work. I thought seeing him at a Vikings game during the Brett Favre season made him seem human again--hey, this guy is so far above it all as an artist, but he likes a little football, too. One of a kind.

There were so many times that I contemplated going to one of his impromptu shows at Paisley Park.  I always had an excuse....Too late at night, who am I going to go with.  After reading the accounts yesterday/today of so many that have gone, I am so pissed that I missed out on the chance.

Such a huge loss.  I usually laugh at all of the "one of us" connections that us Minnesotans like to present, but Prince truly was proud to be "one of us."  And there will never be a Minneapolis icon like him in our lifetime.

He is the greatest Minnesotan. The best one we ever had.

I probably under-appreciated him while he was with us. I love his music, and persona, and the whole bit, but I don't have stacks of Prince records in my home. So, I'm not going to shade myself as some kind of super fanboy.

My favorite band of all time is the Replacements. That's not a "one of us" thing either, I just happen to think they're the best band of all time. But, here's the thing: if it weren't for Prince, there's a serious chance I would have never even heard the Mats at all (should note: I'm 27). Prince put this place on the map. If it weren't for Prince, MTV would never have come to town. My favorite band did everything in their power not to become famous, but they failed because the spotlight was there. Minneapolis became an important cultural zone in the 80s, and he's basically the reason why. Today, music is a pastime still. Band culture continues to thrive. Prince is basically the reason why.

Unfortunately, I have some reputable sources that have informed me about Prince's health situation. Prince had AIDS and stopped taking the meds for that in the past because of his Jehovah Witness beliefs.

I don't want to insult anyone's religion and all that, but if this rings true, what a fraudulent way of belief.

If things were done the right way, this would have never happened.

Such a tragedy... ):

I'm in the trying to be thankful for the legacy he left phase ........not quite there yet.

As someone who's whole life and career is entirely surrounded by music, I'm having a tough time shaking this one.

I feel you on that.
