Mill1634 Verified Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 So it has been said they are working him heavy at first base. With Vargas, Mauer, and Park all ahead of him is there any chance we see him in the MLB organization at all this year? I am saying no but wanted to hear other people's thoughts.

No. And if we do, something went very very wrong.
Old Twins Cap Verified Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 If Park can't hit MLB pitching, Vargas gets traded, Mauer is injured, Plouffe goes to a funeral, Sano pulls a hammy, Kepler isn't ready and they don't like the looks of their AAA 1B, Quentin gets the call.
ThejacKmp Provisional Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Yeah, I more wonder if he'll accept a AAA assignment. There might be some room for him at DH if Park and Arcia struggle (not totally out-of-this-world) but even then Kepler would need to not be ready since Sano to DH and Kepler to RF would make more sense. The Twins just don't seem like the right place for him - it's curious why he chose the Twins. I would think that Tampa would have made more sense with their love of a 1B/DH platoon.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Does anyone know if Quentin had another medical procedure in the past year on the right knee? What caused him to un-retire?
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Yeah, I more wonder if he'll accept a AAA assignment.Yeah, he might retire again -- last year, Quentin retired after 6 days at AAA, so maybe it's not his cup of tea. If he doesn't retire, though, he has to accept any AAA assignment, at least through June 1st (his opt out date).
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 I think he goes to AAA for a few months. If he's not hitting, he'll retire. If is hitting the Twins will either cut him so he can sign elsewhere or trade him for a bag of balls so he can hit somewhere.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 He and his agent couldn't be blind to the Twins assortment of options at his preferred playing positions, they had/have to know that AAA is a very likely possibility.

Or anyone, for that matter.

dxpavelka Verified Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Never say never. Things change fast. Look at our OF situation. I less than 12 months we've gone from "dreadful" to "where we gonna play all these guys" back to "hey, lets put some more infielders out there".
tobi0040 Verified Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 I am guessing at his age and post-injuries, 1B is the only real option in the field. Can't really work on playing DH.
Dman Verified Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 My take is he isn't just auditioning for the Twins. With a good spring he can drum up interest from any club in need of a decent bat and or platoon player. Doesn't matter what team he starts with if he does well in the spring maintains it in AAA he will find a team. He just has to prove he still has what it takes.
