Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2016 Author Posted February 12, 2016 Another thing I thought about. For those that are choosing intelligence, is it worth having that over never catching a common cold, flu, or allergies? Now that I've been in TX for coming up on 2 years, the allergies are catching up to me. Cedar allergies are no joke....
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 It's really quite a burden being as intelligent as I am already. No one around me ever measures up and the constant stupidity I have to deal with day in and day out gets tiring; but they do amuse me from time to time. But I'm not sure I want double that. And not feeling sick, even when I am? How will I know if something's truly wrong? So, if I choose that, I will probably drop dead from cancer one day without even knowing I had cancer and could have done something about it to save my life. I know I keep playing this game by not playing this game, but I think I'm happy just as I am, so I'll pass on both rewards, as tempting as they may seem, and look for something else.

You didn't say I'd never get sick and my health would be perfect......but I still THINK i'd choose intelligence. * *it might help with capitalization, and spelling, for example....

I wonder if I'd be more tolerant of stupidity if I was smarter, or less tolerant......because I find stupidity in co-workers and drivers and others to be the thing that I have the most issue with being calm over......

At least I find myself getting more intolerant of things as I age.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 As a general rule, I'm a big believer in tolerance. What I find hardest to swallow are my own failings. To that end, were I to receive a stat boost, Wisdom would be my choice.

That's easily my biggest concern. I find my wife very intelligent and wonderful, if I'm suddenly on another stratosphere of intelligence, will that change? Will it change friendships? I know how much my current level of intelligence influences those things, but I'd be walking into an unknown if I doubled it.

I think we can agree not dexterity or strength or charisma, right?
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 that wasn't an option......constitution or intelligence? I think we can agree not dexterity or strength or charisma, right?I refuse to be arbitrarily constrained. It's intolerable to my current intelligence.

I'm not married yet, but I do remember one thing I took away from an intro to Psychology class I took in college that people typically have a more successful marriage if they choose a partner with the same education level as them. Which makes sense; if you were a PhD and married a high school dropout you probably wouldn't have a lot in common.

But you know, we stupid people find your easy going conceit somewhat amusing, too.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Some day we should all play D&D together. Really.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Heh ... I'd have to watch as I've never played and don't know how to play. But, if you want to try Rail Baron or Catan, I'd be down. I actually think it'd be more fun for this group to attempt something like Pictionary. Those would be works of art I'd probably save. <G>

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2016 Author Posted February 15, 2016 Happy Monday. I woke up and thought my vision was blurred like Mauer's seeing article after article about Mauer's blurred vision. I'm going to stay safe in the Sports Bar until further notice... Unless there are scorching HOT Mauer takes that I can't help myself but reply to. Anyways, to answer my question from last week, I'm choosing the body boost. As I already mentioned I'm 25 with 2 hip surgeries under my belt. I'd love to continue to play goalie in hockey again without the chance of hurting my leg again, and be able to golf until my 90's with no pain thank you very much. I'm not sure if having more intelligence is a blessing or a curse. I think a lot of friendships and relationships could be ruined because you're no longer able to have the same conversations with each other.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2016 Author Posted February 15, 2016 Today's Question: Synesthesia:You are forced to give up one of your five senses (smell, sight, taste, touch or hearing). However, you may choose to compensate for the loss by means of synesthesia. For example, if you decide to give up your sense of sight, you can choose to smell colors instead. Or if you give up hearing, you might opt to taste music. If you give up taste, you could replace this sensation by feeling flavors. Basically, whatever sense you reject would be reflected through an alternative medium. Which of your senses would you surrender and how would you replace it?
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I don't think I could give one up. This will require thought, but since I like posting a lot, I'll just post that I'm thinking about it before answering.

I think the scenario didn't say you couldn't get sick, just that you wouldn't feel it. So, you'll end up playing hurt, not knowing it, continue to, and then your leg falls off. What then? Oh, you still won't feel it. (And yes, I'm being ridiculous.)

Like Rimsky-Korsakov, Scriabin, Messiaen? Or my beloved Hélène Grimaud? Or the woman I took piano lessons from last summer before I decided to focus entirely on the flute? She was as frustrating and amusing as Liszt: "O please, gentlemen, a little bluer, if you please! This tone type requires it!"
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Well, since taste and smell are inter-related and 75% of taste is smell, I'll lose my taste and taste my food with my smell.
