Well that summary makes it appear that Danny Santana is very, very consistent. Very interesting to to see it presented that way. I guess I can't argue, because stats never lie, right? The summary of Santana's MLB career to date sure doesn't tell the Danny Santana story. The tale of his time in two MLB seasons is anything but consistent. Maybe the above is who he is. Looking at Joe Mauer's career slash line, it certainly is not who he is now. I just don't think it is all quite that simple. Do you predict Santana will have a year that will reflect the above this year? It is pretty amazing how bad he had to be in 2015 to drag his "career" slash line in the show back down to what it is now, and how fast it happened.

Hey, I didn't think so either, but then I started reading the articles and entries and comments on Twins Daily, and it convinced me that fans and management alike seem to think they are.

IF you are going to put Buxton in AAA, then Santana is the logical choice for a fill in. He is not as good a hitter as he was in 2014" nor as bad as 2015. He would probably get you by. And if you put Rosario in CF? That would leave Arcia and Sano with him. Since putting Santana in CF means Buxton is in AAA, don't even bring up Kepler. This could go down as one of the greatest off seasons in the history of MLB for amateur GM, arm chair experts, newspaper columnists, psychiatrists, and hair replacement salons. The decisions Ryan makes in the next months will make or break the franchise for the next 5-6 years.

I get a little wary of spouting career stats of a guy who's major league career is roughly one season.  For that matter, career stats generally need to be taken with a grain of salt anyways as a player's yearly stats will vary quite significantly from the career total more often than they don't.  It's a bit disengenious, and given Santana's age, even more so.  I'm not a huge Santana fan to be clear, but given he was only 24 last season, I do think that there's a reasonable chance he will improve on those at some point.  That said, I do hope Santana isn't plan A.

Who is the real Danny Santana?

 

Good question.  There's the D. Santana the shortstop and the one that's a centerfielder. 

Last season, his time as a MLB shortstop was pretty horrible in the field.  I mean, he was booting very routine plays and I'm betting the pressure to perform at SS lead to his poor AB's. 

 

I keep looking at his 2014 stats, especially the splits.  I don't believe it's an aberration that D. Santana played and hit better as a CF than as a SS.  Is Santana every going to be a defensive CF like Buxton?  Hell no.  I don't think there are many that could reach that level.  I do think its possible that Santana can have a better overall game than Buxton?  Errr, I'll defer my beating for another topic

I'm not in the camp that wants to acquire another outfielder. If Buxton is sent to Rochester, having Santana trying to recapture 2014 might be a good idea.

Having Santana as the super utility 4th OF'er guy would be nice.  It would allow the team to only carry one futility infielder and carry a bat first bench player as the 25th player.

 

The question is whether or not the team is comfortable with him as a CF'er for 2-3 months if Buxton is in AAA or injured.

 

I like De Aza as a versatile 4th OF'er that could start for a couple of months if needed.
