Valencia grounds out and makes a bad play at third and now the Angels have score 2 runs.  My Valencia nostalgia is waning.

Oakland has tied the game in the top of the 6th.  Astros have a 1 run lead and Texas won.

As Oakland was tying the game, so did the Mariners. 11:00 approaching, both west coast games are tied, Texas has lost.

Houston takes the lead.

I can't see them losing more than one game against this Mariners team.

I think the Twins need to got 5-1 to have a shot to end up in a game 163 currently. One of the Angels or Astros will manage to lose no more than 2 games from here on out.

No Texas didn't win ... they lost 7-4

I don't think we can really catch Texas. But the main thing is, if needed, Texas needs to not get "too far up" on the Angels for the last series so the Rangers have a reason to beat the Angels once or twice if the Twins need it.

Astro's win. 3 games in a row on the road, so much for that silly "Stros can't win on the road" Take people were tossing around.

Zero margin for Error for the Twins moving forward. 5-1 is needed minimum.

And Oakland comes up short.

If Angels win this, the Twins are in deep deep trouble.

Would need to go 5-1 and hope that both of Angels and Houston go (5-2 and 4-2) or worse to end the season against some pretty bad teams. That only gets you to a tie of course.

Angels have bases loaded in bottom of 9th with no outs.

Angels win.

Not yet.  I am watching the game and it looks like they will win, but a strikeout and a double play could change that.  Fernando Abad pitching for Oakland.

It's over. Oakland is a dead team walking. Best shot for them to lose two games is if the Rangers stumble down the stretch and "need" those wins this Fri-Sat-Sunday. Angels will sweep the A's. Book it.

Tomorrow's games:

Gibson vs Anderson- Gibson better shake off the rust ASAP.

Bassit vs Tropeano- Prob the A's best chance to steal a game vs the Angels, but still extremely unlikely.

Fiers vs Nuno- Nuno has been hot garbage as of late and isn't very good in general. Houston has won 3 straight and Seattle has lost 5 straight. Likely more of the same.

Twins need to absolutely win to keep pace tomorrow. If they get 2.5 games back at this stage, season is toast.

Twins are now 3 games behind Texas technically, if somehow Rangers could get swept, and Twins could sweep the Indians, the Twins would be a a game behind them heading into the final series as well.

Schedule note: The Angels close with four at Texas. That is four more losses to be "shared" by two teams ahead of the Twins. Also it was written that the Astros won three straight on the road. Nope, they won last night-the other two wins were at home.

Angels got a huge lead and Astros have lead over Mariners.

Twins will be 2 back in the morning and need to win both games tomorrow just to have a chance to close the gap

Mariners held on, but oddly no change in the standings. Angels and Houston switch spots. Angels play a four game against the Rangers to close the season and with the Angels winning streak the Twins are 100% Rangers fans at this point.

Also this thread is a minor miracle.

Um, erroneous. Angels finish with four in Texas. That's tough.

In fact, the Twins now control their own destiny. Even if the Angels win out, that would drop Texas into (at best) a tie with the Twins for the second WC. Houston was the one team the Twins needed to lose a game to control their own destiny and that happened.  Win out and we get a Game 163.

What? No, the Angels still have 1 less loss than we do. The Angels completely control their own destiny right now, not the Twins or Astros.

I also don't think the Diamondbacks at home is a pretty bad team. If the Twins lose a game I still like the shape they're in. That said, they've got to go out and do that. #GoTwins #GotWins

But if they win out Texas drops below us and we get the WC (or a tie for it) while the Angels win the West.  Angels also control their own destiny.  So does Texas.  And Houston. Any team wins out they get a Game 163. Exciting stuff.

We need to also be rooting for Toronto to win and KC to lose. KC is two back in the loss column from "home field advantage" ideally they are 3 or more back by the start of the Twins series and have a little "less" to play for.

Posted

If Houston loses to Seattle (down 2-0 Early) twins still essentially control their own destiny, going 4-0 gets them to a tie at worst.

Go Mariners!
