Rotation Ideas?

With our "rotation" in shambles for the stretch run, how about running out some "bullpen games?"  You can start Santana and Gibson, but the others are shaky.  Why not get Berrios in here, and move May back into the rotation.  For example, if you can get 3 innings out of May, followed by 3 innings of Hughes on one day, then the next get 3 innings out of Milone and 3 from Berrios, and the third start shoot for 3 from Pelfrey and 3 from Duffey.  This lets us use the guys who are on innings limits or working back from injuries.  It also attempts to stretch out May so we have him ready to start a playoff game if we make it.

No offense but it is pretty clear that Berrios won't be pitching during the next few weeks for the Twins so you'd need someone else in that spot. With that said, while this is certainly outside the box thinking it is probably too far outside for any MLB team to actually implement. Thanks for throwing it out there for discussion.

I disagree that it's in "Shambles"

Santana and Gibson you concede

I'll also say... Keep throwing Duffey because Duffey is doing great. I have no idea if some sort innings limit line is on the horizon. You keep throwing him right now because his arm looks great RIGHT NOW.

Milone... has had two rough starts in a row. He had a bunch of great starts before that. Go over tape and see if something has gone wrong and give him the ball when his next turn comes up. He's been good this year... give him the chance to correct himself.

Pelfrey... his last start against KC was pretty good. He didn't make it 6 but he kept KC in check but yeah... he makes us nervous.

Hughes... Doesn't look like Hughes and until he starts looking like Hughes or better than Pelfrey. Long Relief or something.

Berrios... Was great in the minors... I can't recommend him until I see him against big league batters and I won't presume until I see it. I don't feel like giving him a trial run at this stage of the race.

Shambles may be a bit harsh, but the larger problem is that it would be practically miraculous for this rotation to get us through a playoff series, even with the venerable Ricky Nolasco on board. I agree with Dr. River. Our best chances to even win the WC are tied to having the same guys performing well enough to keep us in the game, and hoping Perkins, May, Jepsen, and Fien are enough at the end. Oh, and hoping the bats are at optimal production.

Cleveland worries me. ;)

OK, shambles was a bit much.  But sounds like they aren't going to start Hughes again, and I keep hearing Duffey will possibly be shut down.  So what do we do if that's true?

Stay away from there.

Detroit is a scary city also.

Just to step on someone else's joke... :)

I've enjoyed my visits to Cleveland. Underrated city. Sure it has its share of sketchy neighborhoods, and you rightly say to stay away, but only one destination (for baseball ubergeeks only, the site of old League Park, home of the legendary Spiders of the 1890's NL) is in one and if you go in daylight you're fine. The lakefront is nice. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is worth the visit.
