Barraclough (great name) is a 25 year old reliever with a 10.2 K/9 in AA... but also a 7.3 BB/9.

 

Cishek has been iffy this year, although he is also controlled for 2 more seasons too.  And the Cards probably deserve the benefit of the doubt (although they failed to get Justin Masterson turned around last year).

Doesn't look like St Lou gave up much to get him. 25-year-old reliever at AA, with good K/9 numbers but not that much overall success.

 

I happened to see Cishek pitch in Boston and I wasn't much impressed, but his defense didn't do him any favors that inning either. Seems like a good arm to add to a bullpen mix, where there's some upside, and I would have been happy to see a similar deal done by us.

The Yankees announced they will listen to trade offers for MiLB catcher Gary Sanchez.  Still young (22) he's been moving slowly through the Yankees system.  Hits well.  Reports on his defense varies widely.

Pretty sure they'd want to move him for a guy like Price or Cueto.  Or in a package for a guy like Tulo.

It would take something the Twins don't have or aren't selling.

I wonder if we'll see fewer trades now that the additional Wild Card team has been added. The difference between being in the hunt and being out of the hunt for a playoff spot has shrunk. Also, a team's chances of correcting the ship the following year, in general, is greater because of parity among teams (and the additional Wild Card). I think teams will stand pat more than ever. Unless, of course, decisive deals (clearly good for both teams) comes along.

Coming into the year, he was the Yankees 11th rated prospect by Kiley.....so even if he's ticked it up this year, I think you may be over estimating the cost.....

I doubt the Yankees are floating his name at the deadline for a prospect swap. And the Twins MLB pieces are generally either not good enough or off limits.

 

Just not a good match.

Barraclough was drafted by the Twins in 2011 (but didn't sign.)   TJ Chargois might be a good comparable for the Twins these days.

 

Chishek's velocity dropped 2-3 mph across the board this season, which makes me think that he is hurt.  Not. Good.   Twins' dodged a bullet with this one...

Trading Shields, Kimbrel, etc. would be selling big. Trading cheap assets like Norris too might be more like rebuilding if not A's or Marlins style dismantling.

You're right, we should totally try and get into semantics about what "sell big" means.  That's helpful.

 

Anyway, if they want a shortstop it sounds like Polanco might be a nice place to start to see if we can entice them to deal a catcher.

Interesting.  From what I was reading about him, he wasn't valued nearly that high.  The feeling by some was the Yankees valued defense over offense at catcher and were happy with the combo of McCann and Murphy.  Sanchez didn't have good enough catching skills.

Like you say, the cost is higher if the acquiring team can't get that pick. I wouldn't be surprised if some teams have backed off, especially for more marginal targets like Samardzija this year, and opted to settle for cheaper/internal options.

 

Obviously it doesn't end the rental market, but it has an effect.

 

Guys like Samardzija and Price went a year early too, which is another effect. (More guys might go in the off season too, like Samardzija 2.0).

That's true, most of his mentions seem to be more of the speculation variety, but his name is floating around. We read he is on the Twins radar, for example. Now how much of that speculation is accurate is questionable for sure.
