A night after providing the Minnesota Twins with a dramatic walkoff home run, Brian Dozier learned on Saturday afternoon at the ballpark that he was added to the American League All-Star roster.Dozier found out Friday afternoon that Mike Moustakus had won the Final Vote. He was making plans to be in northern Minnesota for his four-day All-Star break.

On Saturday afternoon, he learned that he has plans in Cincinnati next week.

Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista will not play in the game because of an injury, so Dozier was picked to take his place.

Though he participated in last year's Home Run Derby at Target Field, this is Dozier's first All-Star Game appearance. He joins Glen Perkins as a Twins representative. Perkins is making his third All-Star roster.

Through Friday's game, Dozier was hitting .259/.331/.521 (.852) with 26 doubles, three triples and 19 home runs. He has 49 RBI and a league-leading 66 runs scored.

On behalf of Twins Daily, we would like to congratulate both Glen Perkins and Brian Dozier!

Isn't this usually how it goes? Every year, players drop out and replacements are named. I was upset that Dozier didn't get named for the first vacancy (Gordon) and with his continuing strong performance, I was pretty sure he would get named for the next vacancy, no matter what position the drop-out played.

That said, if Dozier didn't make the club, I wasn't going to watch the All-Star game. Now I will.

It is a small deal, but now Baseball Reference will list him as an All-Star in his bio, richly deserved for both a fine player and a class act. I'd love to see him make a difference in the game.

My sentiments exactly. I was planning on not watching the game and trying to guess when Perkins was put in, but I'm all in now. Watching the announcement fromTarget Field on TV was a great moment to see. Can't imagine how cool it would have been to have seen it in person. I hope both Dozier and Perkins make a difference, both tomorrow and Tuesday!

I was at the game when they announced it. everyone got really quiet when they started "Attention ladies and gentlemen..." then as they continued, you could tell people started to realize what was about to be announced. When they finally stated Dozier was named to the ASG the place went nuts. My wife started to cry, which seems like an over-reaction, but whatever. It was a cool moment that was well-deserved and overdue.

I confess I got a little misty-eyed. He's a player I like, I have spoken to him and he seems very genuine and down-to-earth and he really, really deserved the honor. Combined with the very real possibility that he won't be selected to another All-Star game, it is and was pretty special. It certainly made his walk-offs all the more special, too.
