Souhan on Koskie after Baseball

Star Tribune's Jim Souhan wrote an article today on how Corey Koskie's life after baseball is proceeding. He struggled with the concussions for 2 1/2 years, but not he's a franchisee at Planet Fitness and coaching his boys in baseball and hockey.

I particularly enjoy his thoughts on how many parents and coaches are pushing their kids to one sport and other philosophies.

Heard him speak once at a banquet thingy in St. Paul. I think Mr. Bonnes was there too. He talked for about 45 minutes and had the crowd rolling, laughing hysterically most of that time. It was one of his first speaking gigs after recovering from the concussions.

I've seen him around Target Field and in the clubhouse a couple of times. He's always got his boys and they're playing and active. It's great to see.

I love reading these kinds of stories. It's so easy to get wrapped up in the numbers game of sports that we sometimes forget or fail to consider the human side of things. And I agree with all the good sentiments above re Koskie.

I really don't know a ton about him off the field, but he always seemed like one of those extremely coachable players who just loved to play.  That's why it surprises me that he isn't involved with the organization (or any MLB organization).  He seemed like the kind of guy who would find himself back in the dugout again some day.  Perhaps after his children get older?

My sister's family and my family went up to SF one summer probably around 01 or 02, we went and watched the Twins play in Oakland.  My Niece and Nephew were standing in the stands over the dugout and my Niece was probably about 4 at the time. Koskie was taking grounders in the infield, and then some dude popped out of the dugout and gave my Niece a baseball, my sister said wow thanks, the guy told my sister that Koskie said to give to ball to my Niece who was wearing a Twins hat at an Oakland game.  That was when I knew Koskie was a really good guy.  I mean I know that my Niece wasn't the only kid who got a ball from him, and it made a 4 year old kid's day.
