Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 It looks like the Twins can cross one of the names off of their managerial list today. According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale (via twitter), Chip Hale will be named the next manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The former Twins infielder/pinch hitter has served in several roles in the big leagues from third base coach to bench coach, which was his current position with the Oakland A's. The Arizona #Dbacks are expected to announce today the hiring of Chip Hale as their manager. Hale had been the #Athletics bench coach.

Kwak Verified Member Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I no longer think Molitor is the frontrunner. Methinks he has a different vision than the Front Office.
Parker Hageman Site Manager Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 According to the AZCentral's Diamondbacks' beat writer Nick Piecoro, Chip Hale, who was to be interviewed for the Minnesota Twins' managerial vacancy, has accepted the job in Arizona. Piecoro also noted that Hale had canceled his interview with the Twins to see the opportunity through with the Diamondbacks first. Hale is a graduate of the University of Arizona and lives in Tucson.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I'll be very surprised if it's not someone from inside the Twins org. Hard to see Terry hiring a manager from outside that he'd have to spend the winter teaching the Twins way.
Parker Hageman Site Manager Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I'll be very surprised if it's not someone from inside the Twins org. In the forthcoming interview with Terry Ryan that will be released with the Offseason Handbook, I was asking him about the manager hunt. He was adamant that each candidate know the Twins' system top-to-bottom at the manager job interview. He acknowledge that it gave the internal candidates the advantage but said that he would want an external candidate to show that they want to earn the job by putting in the preparation prior to the interview.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Already a thread on this on the Twins' part of the forum.....

Kirby_waved_at_me Verified Member Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Hale was the one to cancel the scheduled interview with Minnesota. His first coaching gig after retirement was with the D'backs and he went to college in AZ, so presumably the AZ job was the one he wanted the most.
ashbury Verified Member Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 he would want an external candidate to show that they want to earn the job by putting in the preparation prior to the interview. What similar hoop would he ask the internal candidates to jump through?
biggentleben Verified Member Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Do NOT call him anything but Chip, however.

Maybe Hale's right to grab the job that is offered now, but that doesn't reduce my disappointment.
