The Tigers are intentionally walking Melky Cabrera AND Joey Bautista to load the bases and face... Danny Valencia.

 

edit: I guess Juan Francisco is PH-ing

What?  He's batting .286 this year!  Oh, sure, some might point to the .362 babip or the .219 avg against righties, but c'mon.  He's got a cool-sounding name!

Anybody been to the collessium? Looks like a bad place to watch a game. You're 70 yards from the action even if you're in the front row.

I have, but I had a great seat so had a good view.

 

Awful stadium though, and when I was there it was literally me and a couple thousand other folks in the stands.  I was sitting behind the plate, and I could hear individual conversations from folks out in the right field seats.  I kid you not.

It's not in a great location, when Mrs. Stringer and I were in SF, we came in from the Oakland Airport. The area looked pretty sketchy and then I saw o.co Stadium or whatever they call it.

You are correct.  Had middling lower deck seats between home and first, about 20 rows back, and it felt like upper deck seats minus the top-down perspective.  Day after the 1991 opener.  Pretty packed house as Henderson was about to tie Brock's stolen base record.  Stadium erupted when he reached base, but not a good jump on the steal attempt; Junior Ortiz gunned him down .  Instant near-silence in the stadium, except for me.

 

Oh, and had only lived in the Bay area a couple of months before that game.  One of the guys who delivered my furniture noticed my Twins shirt and cheerfully noted that he and a buddy had gotten into a fight with a Twins fan at an A's game.  "Beat him up pretty good!".

 

Oakland.  Ah, the memories.

Everything about the stadium was awful 20 years ago.

 

Then the Raiders came back to town, "renovated" the stadium, and then made it even more awful for baseball.

 

But the A's can't move to San Jose because MLB is lame.

 

That organization deserves so much better than it gets in Oakland.

Give Hughes credit for a very good outing today.  One run in 7 innings, with 7 Ks.

I don't scare easy -- lived in Flint, Mich., for golly's sakes -- but walking in downtown Oakland at noon on a weekday put the hair on end.

Almost.  And the 12 game losing streak to the A's is over.
