His 9.00 ERA is heavily inflated by a .400 BABIP that surely points to future regression.

Here's the thing I don't get.  By sending him onto the field at a position, the White Sox lost the use of the DH for the remainder of the game.  They risked having to pinch hit for him later, had they tied it up.  Why would they take such a crazy chance on losing their best power hitter?
