If there was any doubt about what other teams think about Mauer, you just had proof.

1st base open, runner on 2nd, RH hitter on deck, RH pitcher on the mound, 1 run game in the 9th, and they pitch to him. With a fastball.

...Says the man who once said he doesn't allow individual plate appearances to prove things. That was a long time ago, of course.

"Watching" on Gameday (shhhhh)...Anyone know the significance of the various colors of the trail of the pitches that are shown? Did a google search and looked briefly at the site, but couldn't find a quick answer.

Perhaps you missed the point. Yet again. Do try to keep up.

This has nothing to do with the results of that PA. This has to do with what other teams think of Mauer as a hitter.

There was a time when every manager in the league puts Mauer on in that situation.

Let's hope this is not our only series sweep of the year.

I still think Detroit wins the Central, but that infield didn't look too snappy this series.

Sweeps sure feel better when your team is the sweeper than the sweepee.

No kidding. Nice job by the team today, from what you can see on gamecast. The lineup is just so much better with Dozier, Morneau, and Willingham in there....when Doumit comes back, it looks like a MLB roster again mostly.

Sweeps feel better when its againist Detroit too! Good game for the boys. Bullpen came though again. Capps still perfect for saves.

C'mon man....no need for that.... We're all friends here.

No we're not.

Very efficient inning by Capps, with ten pitches. Avila gave him a battle, then Boesch and Peralta made life easy.

Not so efficient for the Twins offense though. OBP .389, SLG .500, yet only 4 runs, and one of those was charged to the defense.

Nice outing from Walters. Certainly not overpowering, but competent.

I continue to like Dozier. At the least he looks pretty darn comfortable at SS.

Tigers defense looked horrible in this series. Fielder is a major liability at 1st. How long until the Tigers go get a 3B, put Cabrera at 1st, and put Fielder in the DH spot.

I don't understand why they didn't do that in the first place...

Maybe cuz they'd have to put the Tasmanian Delmon in the field more.

What does it mean when the Twins' player with the highest batting average after play on Thursday is... Drew Butera, at .350. He had three hits in four AB. That gives him seven hits in 20 AB.

Go Drew!!!

Keith Law of ESPN.com reports that the Padres have designated Orlando Hudson for assignment.

The Padres have yet to make an official announcement, but the writing has been on the wall for a while now. Hudson has batted just .238/.313/.344 since joining the Padres and the recently-acquired Alexi Amarista lingers as an alternative in the minor leagues. The Padres would still be responsible for the remainder of Hudson's $5.5 million salary this year and his $2 million buyout in 2013, so the 34-year-old shouldn't have any trouble drawing interest at the major league minimum. Stay tuned.

Ohhhhhhhhh. I see. Seemed quick to have had a conference call with other managers. Or is it general managers? Owners? Bench coaches? Is it all of the other teams on one big call or just some of them? Within the division? The whole league? Or do they get together before the games? I guess I don't know how many teams get involved with Leyland there. There's a lot for me to learn.

I think that was more about the quality of reliever on the mound and not about Mauer. Gas and moving gas ain't nuthin to ____ with as Wu-Tang would say.

This was really a move for next year when they have Martinez back. Then what are you going to do with 3 DH's.

Yes. Yes there is. I'll do my best to point these things--things that baseball people notice--out to you.

Are we talking about the same Brayan Villarreal here? The guy with less than 20 major league innings under his belt, with a 1.9 WHIP, ERA over 6? The guy just recalled to Detriot today, when they went to 13 pitchers? That Brayan Villarreal?

I think you might be making my point for me.
