Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 This is what I see. Well, there's another permission problem. I can't see the attachment. Can you email it to brock@twinsdaily.com?
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 Derpity derp. I think I found the setting. Now take a look. Man, the migration really FUBARed permissions. None of these issues existed on the test site.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 MUCH better....you are a wizard sir.
Willihammer Provisional Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Do you not have an upload link? I'm still sorting through the permissions in the gallery. No upload link, either from my willihammer>my profile>my gallery view, or when replying to a post -the only option is to link to URL.

Kirby_waved_at_me Verified Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Seeing the new look for the first time - it's nice - really appreciate all the work that is done to make this forum run smoothly. I agree with Curt above - reading through the thead was great. Thanks to all that make this forum such a great place to share the love of the Twins!
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Not sure if you care, but at my crappy work computer, it looks 100X better on IE8.........I love the new look a lot. Can't wait to explore more when I'm back home.
SweetOne69 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 The new site looks great. I have a question. I used to view the forums by clicking "what's new" or something like that. I can still do that on the mobile site, but I can't find it on the desktop site. Is that feature still here?

Click that and toggle into Community if you don't default there already. You'll see a link for new content stashed in there. You can now filter by section, unread content, and a bunch of other stuff. FAR more robust than the old system.

I think we are going to have to wait to see the power of some of these new features until all the articles get published.
Thegrin Verified Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I am not pleased. The right sidebar used to be easy to use. If you wanted to read an article, you clicked it. Now there are multiple posts for the same article. You must click the bottom (small) "full topic" if you want to start from the beginning. Was this change necessary and/or helpful ? Not for those of us who are still challenged by our mouse. PS. Where are those threads that come from Trade Rumors ? Where is the link to "Pucket's Pond"?
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 I am not pleased. The right sidebar used to be easy to use. If you wanted to read an article, you clicked it. The new system actually lets you read an article if you click on the name, as it displays the article in the thread (those links lead to the forums, not articles). The old system simply put a link to the article in the first post. The sidebar on the front page doesn't lead you to articles, it leads you to forum posts, often about articles. And the multiple post situation has been discussed multiple times. That will be fixed once the article forum decides to stop its drunken shenanigans. If you don't like where the link takes you on the page, mouse over the bottom right of your screen. There is a "back to top" icon fixed in the bottom right at all times. That will shoot you to the top of the page. Really, this system is so much easier to use. It feels like a website from 2014 instead of something from 2008. It will just take time for some of you to find all the additions I've added into the system. They're all over the place and almost every one of them makes sense once you erase from memory how the old site worked (which was often incredibly counter-intuitive... "easy to use" and "this is what I'm used to using" are not synonymous). snepp 1
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Love the new organization chart site. If someone had time, they could put in links to MiLB pages and stats and stuff.....
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 Love the new organization chart site. Easily my favorite new section of the site. Jeremy kicked some ass on that once he and I started really hammering out what we wanted it to do and how we wanted it to work.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Easily my favorite new section of the site. Jeremy kicked some ass on that once he and I started really hammering out what we wanted it to do and how we wanted it to work. Given how much work you and Jeremy put in on this, I hate to ask but is there any way that the number of options a player has remaining could be added to the roster & payroll section? Went there this morning thinking it might be there and was disappointed that it wasn't. I do love both the organizational chart and the roster & payroll. Any chance they could be alphabetized or that we could click something to alphabetize? (Sorry to ask for more work because I really do appreciate them.)
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 28, 2014 Author Posted July 28, 2014 I do love both the organizational chart and the roster & payroll. Any chance they could be alphabetized or that we could click something to alphabetize? There is an option to do this. It's still a little buggy but if you click on Custom, you can sort by Player Name. A bit clunky and it will be improved in time but it works for now. A catchphrase that was picked up here at work and is now used extensively is "it's not right but it works". That's pretty much the current site in a nutshell. It will probably be 6-8 weeks before I get it close to what I envisioned at launch. Normally, a project of this scope would be handled by a small development team, not one guy working at night. snepp 1

Just switch to "player name" sort "Ascending" and there it is ..... much better. That'll teach me to explore some more! Thanks.

Options: If you go to the Organizational Chart, click on "custom", sort by "options" and sort "descending". That will be much more helpful than putting it on the R&P page. The "custom" button also will work to alphabetize things too.

They are not shown on the Roster & Payroll. Much more info on each player in the organizational chart. Thanks again for all the work.

Jeremy Nygaard Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 At some point - at least after I get all the guys entered - I'll write up an article that explains all the bells and whistles. At this point, though, there is still a lot of data input to do... and while I do that, I make a laundry list of things that I'll send to Brock. It's currently functionable, so we were ok with having it live. I'm always open to suggestions, though I'm not sure how much is out there that hasn't been discussed.

Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Just noticed Seth's "Trade Candidate: Brian Duensing" article in the sidebar... but it isn't listed in the Minnesota Twins Talk forum, despite being from today and having several replies within the past few hours. I saw (and still see) articles from Monday in the forum ("Monday Morning Madness" and Gleeman & the Geek podcast), so maybe it's something about how this particular article is classified? (EDIT: Now I see the Duensing article in the forums, just took an hour or so?) I LOVE how the full "Monday Morning Madness" and Gleeman & the Geek articles show up in the forum view! I use the forum as my gateway to the site, and it was always a pain having to leave a forum thread to read an article, then find my way back to the forum. JB_Iowa 1
ericchri Provisional Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 In trying to just "Reply to this topic," I find I am unable to do simple copy-cut-paste operations in the window as I'm typing in text, with the usual Ctrl-c, Ctrl-x, Ctrl-v. Actually, as I'm doing the same thing to try and post this comment, I now discover that I can somewhat inconsistently Cut some text with Ctrl-x, but it has yet to ever paste that text back in with a Ctrl-v no matter how often I try. The little icons at the top of the text window which have Copy, Paste, Paste as Plain Text, and Paste from Word occasionally pop up a warning window asking if I want to allow the browser access to my computer's clipboard (which I'm not necessarily worried about, just puzzled it ever gets to that extreme).
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Which settings? I was really referring to using some of the advance features, etc. Until all of the old articles finish posting, sometimes they dominate the features because they are all still showing up as new. I just think it is going to take a little bit until everything has completed in the transition before we really understand the power of some of the features Brock has added.
