For the first two games of this Yankees-Twins series, the Twins went off early by scoring 3 runs in last nights game, then only being able to score one more the rest of the game (thanks to a Parmalee solo shot). Then allowing the Yankees to not only tie the game with 3 unanswered runs, but let them carry on with their rain of terror by scoring 7 more ending in a blowout over the Twins. Following that up was the next night with- what do you know- the same result occurring. The only difference
Down the stretch they come! Well, at least as far as voting goes for the 2013 MLB All-Star Game in New York City. There can be some debate over who should make the club. Some voters like to pick out the players that have had the best first half of a season in 2013. Others look at the last calendar year and try and pick out the rosters based on those performances. Today I break down the American League roster. There are some tough decisions at a couple positions but there are some ways to bre
Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed! I also wrote about the two Rick Aguilera trades on Tuesday, you can read them here. Just one day after trading away Rick Aguilera, one of the more popular players on the Twins team, General Manager Terry Ryan's bloodlust was cresting and he was hungry for another trade. Who would be his next victim? The Trade: BREAKDOWN! The Minnesota Twins traded Scott Erickson to the Baltimore Orioles for Scott Klingenbeck and a player to be named later (
Injuring what was one of his hottest in the month of June to what could have been an avoidable play by Indians’ catcher Yan Gomes is not lost on manager Ron Gardenhire. Ryan Doumit had been hitting .278/.345/.481 with three home runs, five doubles and a triple in June prior to suffering a sprained ankle in Cleveland on June 23. Since the incident, Doumit has sat out three games and has gone 5-for-20 (.250) without any extra base hits in his 21 plate appearances. Doumit, who was coming into
With all the talk of late as to who might be our "shortstop of the future", one thought keeps popping back into my head. It's a thought that probably has about as much chance of happening as my winning the lottery twice in my lifetime (and since I haven't won it once yet, unfortunately...) but I can't shake it. Thinking about it a little more has caused me to think about a few other things, like what you want in a shortstop, not just who should be playing the position. I'll start with the ri
Minnesota Twins super-prospect Byron Buxton led the Cedar Rapids Kernels through a pretty amazing first half of their Midwest League season. They led the league’s West Division almost from wire to wire. Almost. But on Sunday, June 16, the Kernels gave up a late lead to the Peoria Chiefs and sealed their fate as the Division Runner-Up. That was the last day that Buxton wore his Kernels home whites on Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. After returning from the MWL All-Star Ga
Also posted at wgom.org Chuck Stobbs (1929) Samuel Deduno (1983) Rene Tosoni (1986) Left-hander Chuck Stobbs was an original Twin, appearing in twenty-four games for them in 1961. He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, went to high school in Norfolk, Virginia, and signed with Boston as a free agent in 1947. He pitched very well that season for Class B Lynn, going 9-2, 1.72, got a September call-up at age 18, and never went back to the minors again. He may have been injured in 1948, as he a
As it is every July 2nd, teams begin to announce deals with "International Free Agents". This year is no different and the Twins made an early splash, signing Dominican 1B/OF Lewin Diaz for $1.x million. Diaz actually played in the Under Armour All-American Game at Wrigley Field last August, going 1-for-3 against many players who are older and were drafted in last month's draft. As the DH, he batted 7th in a lineup that included new Twin Brian Navaretto. Diaz checked into the game at 6'
With the recent release of the MLB Futures game roster, it came to no ones surprise that Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton were on that list. Sano who was making a mockery of high-A ball and is now starting to catch fire in Double A. And Buxton who was also destroying low A ball in Cedar Rapids now finds himself in high-A and has yet to make a strong impact there (having only played 4 games there). Now lets say you just became a hugely dedicated Twins fan and had no idea when or who the Twins ha

On Friday Mrs. Peanut and I will go to England/Scotland on vacation, this means there will be very few PFH blogs coming out (I have a few scheduled to drop in absentia), but in preparation for that and as fine example of laziness time-management, I'm using a blog from another site: The Montanan Hooligans' World Cup Center since it relates to why I love baseball. If what I write makes you even slightly curious about more soccer writing, feel free to check that out...and know that while baseball m
Also posted at wgom.org Justin Huber (1982) First baseman/outfielder Justin Huber had two at-bats with the Twins in 2009. He was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia and was signed by the Mets in 2000. He hit well throughout his early minor league career, reaching AAA briefly in 2004. He was then traded to Kansas City, for whom he reached the majors for a week in June and then received a September call-up in 2005. He had been a catcher in the Mets’ system, but was moved to first base
I am not a follower of Donald Trump. I have participated in several no kings rallies and am disgusted with what he and his followers have done to our country and the world. I would like to know what most Brazilians feel about the United States now and about the folks our citizens have elected to represent us.
