A Checklist for Kyle Gibson

The 2009 MLB Draft has to feel like eons ago to Mr. Kyle Gibson. He was supposed to be a high first round pick but some injury concerns caused him to drop to the Twins with the 22nd pick. In 2010, he went on a tear through the Twins farm system as he started in High-A and finished the year at Triple-A. The club named him the minor league pitcher of the year and he looked to be one step away from the big leagues.   Tommy John surgery would halt his progress in 2011 and he has been slowly working

Those Damn Yankees: A Minnesota Twinkie in King Rivera's Court

I used to be the worst kind of person in the world. A Yankees fan that didn't live in New York. As lewd and annoying as they might be, you can't blame a New Yorker for being a Yankees fan -- let's face it, their other option is the Mets. But if you don't live in New York, and your family isn't from there, it's simple douchebaggery that makes a person cheer for that team. But I did.   It all started because the Twins broke my heart by trading Rick Aguilera -- twice -- and fell into self-inflicted

Twins Birthdays--June 27

Also posted at wgom.org Wayne Terwilliger (1925) Chuck Coles (1931) Luis Rodriguez (1980)   Willard Wayne Terwilliger, known as “Twig”, did not play for the Twins, but was part of their organization for several years. Unrelated to Dick Terwilliger, who was also born on June 27, they are the only two people with the last name “Terwilliger” to have played in the major leagues. He was born in Clair, Michigan, attended Western Michigan University, and was signed by the Cubs as a free agent in 1948

Twins Minor League Report (6/26): Sano's Big Day

MLB made it official on Wednesday afternoon.   Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton are the "future" and they will both be participants in this year's MLB Futures Game. This game features some of the best talent in the minor leagues from each organization. The teams are broken up into a World Team and a US Team so Sano and Buxton will be on opposite squads.   Because of some rainouts on Tuesday, there were a ton of games in the Twins system on Wednesday. Let's see who else is part of the Twins future.

Don't Blame "Those Damn Yankees"

The Twins, according to legend, are afraid of the Yankees. And you know what, after some quick post-season exits at the hands of the Yankees, that is a pretty easy narrative to build. Add in the fact that the Twins have struggled to beat the Yankees in the regular season, despite the Twins having fairly successful regular season teams for most of the 2000’s, and you begin to see how that narrative continues to grow. http://knuckleballsblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Santana.jpg Johan S

Marred by Marlins (Twins at Marlins - Games 72-73)

Losing to Traffic AND the Marlins (Twins 2 Marlins 4 - Game 72)   Began the drive home with the Twins down by two runs and an unexpected optimism they could pull this thing off. Maybe getting a phone call from my wife informing me we had power after a 91 hour drought made me sentimental. Maybe it was seeing Minnesotans looking over piles of chopped wood, proud to have survived another beating from Mother Nature.   My hope didn’t die when then Twins attempts to score a run died on the basepaths,

Twins Birthdays--Jun 25

A day late. Sorry about that. But there are no players related to the Twins born on this day anyway. The closest we come is Joe Kuhel (1906), who played for the franchise while it was in Washington and also managed the team there.

Forgotten Twin? Bernardo Brito

Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed!   For those who are unfamiliar with this feature, I scour the most reliable internet sites to try to determine whether or not a former Minnesota Twin is forgotten or not. I use all the best sites – Wikipedia, Google, Bing, eBay, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Baseball Reference. If the player isn't featured to my liking, they are officially forgotten. The entire first paragraph will come from my own memory though. No guarantees for accuracy or in

Monsters and Yankees

The first thing you need to understand is the New York Yankees breed monsters.   Monstrous Yankees seem to be human, but they grow to be so much more than that. They become legends, with their memory preserved in Monument Park throughout the ages.   This is not necessarily an insult: monsters can be heroes, too. Take Babe Ruth. He began as a boy at an orphanage and grew into a walking appetite. His home runs shot further and further away from the batter’s box until thinking of him as a mortal mi

Wha' Happened #9 (GAME OF THE WEEK)

Rather than continually reposting the same stuff here as on my other website--and since these recaps are often (week) late--I'm going to trim down these posts to more manageable bite size single best game write ups I've got, and trust that if you want to read more you will find it at THIS WEBSITE!   Game 69 Twins 7 - White Sox 5 The Twins do not care for power hitting. It hurts the feelings of our opponents after all, and we can't have that. But we're willing to make an exception for the White S

Oh, You Also Received a Derek Jeter Gift Basket? . . . Awkward

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ftOjgTqApzM/Uce1csJQRRI/AAAAAAAAAms/E4fKmCfKhk0/s320/Giftbasket.jpg You wake up hazy -- perhaps a little hung-over and still tasting those apple-tinis from the previous night. Across from you in the king size bed, an aging baseball superstar stirs, gently clutching a bear-skin blanket. His eyes open. He kisses you gently on the nose and says "that was nice." He informs you that he's called a Town Car to take you home. Derek Jeter then rises, stretches, and waves a nude
