  1. I really like what I've seen from this FO so far. I will say their style of communication is a bit much for me. I'm all for proper grammar and large vocabularies. For example I cringe when Mike Zimmer speaks, football seems to frown on intellectualism (except Belichick). One of the things I like about baseball is it's embrace of the intellect. Funny when you realise that many players never went to college, I wonder what they think of the dynamic ivy league duo! I do appreciate well spoken people but only when they don't appear to be trying to be well spoken. This is something I've noted with some amusement and overall I've enjoyed watching them operate.
  2. This is a good idea John, really illustrates the structure. These guys make some thoughtful moves, just a breath of fresh air around here. All these smart details piling up relentlessly have got to put this team in an advantageous situation.
  3. I like this move. Polanco's a very nice infield bat that projects well. I see a consistent and well rounded hitter.
  4. I think he said stats become more important as you climb the ladder which would bear out with your Gonsalves example.
  5. Ah money laundering... Remind me not to play a Pohlad for money in chess. I kid,I kid
  6. Maybe someone can answer this for me. The Twin Cities are the 16th largest market in the US. They have the 20th ranked tv deal. Seattle just passed us for the 15th ranked metro area. They have the 5th highest tv deal. What gives? Our games are shown statewide and in neighboring states. Not the case for Seattle. Maybe I should apply for a job?
  7. The only reason, besides the old adage you can never have enough pitching, to sign Perez that I can think of is maybe they know something about Mejia's health that we don't.
  8. Reed had a 965!! OPS! Geez. Bats right, no options. Gotta think he's got the inside track and then we have what I agree are too many behind him on the forty. Yes we do need to make a decision and pare them down. I also agree the only reason they still have granite on the forty is to trade him if he rebuilds his value.
  9. Littel looks that way to me too, AAAA, but then you look at his age and some good results/numbers maybe he's got a chance.
  10. Cruz saw something he liked here and decided to come. Says he sees a young talented team that reminds him of his days in Texas. Not everybody is going to feel that way. Grandal saw the same thing in Milwaukee. That's why I don't agree with comments stating the Twins didn't try hard enough or low balled an offer. Negative commentary without any proof. The Twins have been HORRIBLE for the better part of a decade and the area is unknown to most players who the vast majority of come from warm climates. The only way this team can consistently attract top talent is to build something players want to be a part of.
  11. I've always liked Polanco's bat. A spark plug and clutch hitter. His presence seems to energize the lineup and in big spots he doesn't have many holes for the pitcher to exploit. The most well rounded hitter of the twins in house core.
  12. Onboard with this. How about instead of riding a guy until he proves beyond any shadow of doubt that it's not working, let's have a short leash, react quickly like every game counts and ride the hot hands (bats)hard.
  13. There are three big factors that will help determine how well our current bp does. Castro's framing, Buxton in center(outfield defense) and the coaching staff. It's been beaten to death but bullpen usage is an area that could see HUGE improvement.
  14. Another reason to extend Gibby! Extend him!
  15. What I don't want to see is a long leash for anybody. That's why this might not be a bad option. Only bring the guy up if he's dealing in AAA. Then if they falter... next.
  16. Gonsalves has a chance to be a mid rotation piece with a track record superior to prospects like the recently released Slegers. These guys we're grousing about Gonsalves, Mejia, Thorpe and Romero are a large step up from what twins fans are used to. Should be fun to watch.
  17. I'm happy with this he not only improves the lineup but those around him will benefit from his batter box clout! The 40 man won't produce stress for me... Lets see. I guess I'd go with Granite. There is nothing about this deal that could be improved. While I completely agree with limiting the length of FA deals it is making me start to wonder if the whiz kids are against long deals altogether. We might know soon as decisions are looming
  18. Except the innings pitched. Thirty extra appearances for our beleaguered bullpen
  19. I'm with doc on this I would be shocked if they don't sign at least Gibby and soon. I would be disappointed as well. They cannot move forward with such a bare cupboard
  20. 4. He's a Midwestern boy who can appreciate a fine Minnesota summer. 5. After working his way back from the abyss he gained some confidence and started to lead a little. He will appreciate the place where he came of age.
  21. Everybody talks about the need for 7-8 starters. How the hell can you get rid of Gibby? We have three rite now that you can reasonably count on. Sign him now! I personally believe he is a late bloomer on a sustainable path to success. Plus I'd like to add that I would wager Gibby wants to be here. He is a Midwestern boy and he was just finally feeling the confidence to lead a little bit. Build around him.
