  1. C'mon people where the angst? The guy is still getting 23m this year. 2.3m per homer! JK just got a little disoriented for a sec there. I'd take the over on a 300 BA this year. I wonder if any of the anti Joe set over at the Strib would put their money where their typing fingers are....
  2. He looks pretty good to me. Fitter than I expected. His incident will play itself out and if he is punished I doubt it it would exceed Chapman's violent and documented outburst. If he has to miss time I can see a hungry and healthy Sano returning. Nobody questions Berrios' or Buxton's commitment. Some guys who have a non-nonchalant or mellow demeanor like Sano or Mauer get questioned. Not always warranted. I'm sure Sano has learned many lessons in the last year.
  3. I'm happy. This was a good off-season, a fun off-season and not reminiscent of past years. Odorizzi does not in any way remind me of Nolasco. Lance Lynn might though . There is one gripe for me. 116m the record setting payroll, is record setting in number only. In real mlb inflation adjusted dollars it is light. 135m is where this team should be sitting. I'll give them the benefit of doubt because i was not in favor of a 5 year deal for a 31 year old pitcher, and you can't complain when good moves are also good deals but with this ownership I cringe when I hear they are saving money. The last five years alone they under spent by a cumulative what 75m? In a few years from now when the young talent needs to get paid i want to see some heavy payrolls. If we are dumping talent instead I may join the Pohlads are cheap crowd. I already would gladly move to the parallel universe where the twins are owned by a pizza tycoon or anybody but a banker.
  4. "the new brass ain't too sentimental" This is what is refreshing to me. They do seem very shrewd to me. Heck this mid market team has been stocked but they still have cash to spend. 135m would fit their market size. They might not be done I think this off-season is going to produce some last minute one year deals
  5. TD doesn't need click bait in my book as my finger is always poised to pounce on whatever is the next offering. #confessionsofaTDjunkie
  6. He's not that bad for a guy from Mississippi.
  7. The thing I liked about MLB teams aggressively shuttling relievers up and down is if done properly and with the right accumulated talent you could be effectively operating with a larger roster. This could be a real advantage.
  8. Last year if I recall he was only hitting 88-89 even into the regular season. 91 is a good sign. I'm rooting for this classy Twin.
  9. Yes I can see your point. I was however speaking of doing this with SP and just referencing a trend I saw last year when teams had arms waiting at AAA and rotating with the guy who just got used up in the MLB pen. This was a bullpen trend that I liked last year. I think this idea presented for the 5th starter had some merits as well.
  10. Similar change in approach to what Dozier did. Every year we wonder when he will turn into a pumpkin but it hasn't happened yet. Who can say whay will happen but as was pointed out he came from the East and will play in a weaker division. This sort of thing gets downplayed and people have correctly pointed out when talking pitching that the offenses of the East were average last year. In this case though he will be facing many more lightly regarded righties than last year.
  11. I think this is missing a new trend of rotating bullpen pieces to contend with shorter starts and more bullpen innings needed. I think many would still line up considering the size of those paychecks and all those free rides and meals etc. If you know the game going in and the possible reward then I think it would be ok.
  12. Nice article. Personally the oft repeated Falvine takes the cake. Just rolls off the tongue. You have to double check when your reading cause it's so subtle. Pure genius. Anyway first off we don't really know how healthy these guys are so that's a starting point. I really liked Chargois had high hopes but he's gotta pitch. The thing that does stick in my craw is the rule 5. Isn't this a leveling device and as such when a team reaches the upper realm of the league wouldn't their roster be too good to add from the fringes of others? Then your clogging the 25. So far they're 0 for 1 so we'll see. I did just check the 40 and it is a much better crew than last year. Who are you going to give up Slegers, Curtiss or Sanchez? Can't do that to Sanchez so no. Slegers has back of the rotation potential and has been healthy so no. Then Curtiss? Similar and healthier so no. For me the only possible choice is the rule 5 and of course Chargois' health factor.
  13. Hughes needs to be back in the 92-94 range if he is truly healthy. If he is still I the high 80's by the end of spring like last year cut bait.
  14. Agreed that is better and there are better options coming up as well. By mid season we won't be resorting to a flier on a 45 year old anomaly
  15. Let's get Garver some at bats and see if we have a right handed bat with some pop! He's not getting any younger so I would say it's now or never for him. Will be fun to watch.
  16. Hey I resemble that remark Brock! I'm definitely in the camp that you take the BPA and that pitchers are very risky. Houston is a great example. I would say the great majority of our top pitchers came from other than the top of the draft. It is the same for other teams as well. Right now our top guy berrios was a supplemental pick amid the #1 in the staff is Gibby.
  17. His size and or weight are what limit an otherwise very athletic man in the field. There is no question. What else would be the reason he would be limited in his fielding? He has a cannon, great reflexes and practiced baseball instincts. The only thing missing is he is limited by his size. I have always liked Hrbek and watching him play but I always felt his career was limited by his conditioning and that was in an era of less conditioning overall. If Sano worked out half as much as La Machina (Berrios)and stayed under 250 maybe 240 he would have a better chance of maximizing his potential, no question. On the other hand if he works hard and stays above 250 plays for ten or more years as a 1B/DH being capable enough at 1B to play winning ball in the NL parks in the playoffs who wouldn't be happy?
  18. Lots of optimism here a very spring like post! Hughes the pick to click! I am liking the overall depth and less chance of some of the the guys they through out there to start last year. That was hard take.
  19. As much as I like the hornswoggling reference the debacle reference cancels it out
  20. I dont see a team that concerned about money giving up one of the best pitching deals out there. They still have to field an MLB team.
  21. This is the medicine needed after all the Sanchez stress. This guy is the best pitching pickup since Santana. May be close to Hughes but I think this guy will give us more. He is only 27. For what they gave up this could turn into a steal. What I like about this FO vs the old regime is they are more aggressive and make creative moves but they obviously highly value the farm. They state as much. They have improved organizational depth and the team. I'd say that's pretty good so far.
