    Brooks Lee is the one that will make the Twins make BIG choices going forwards. Does he play shortstop, moving Correa to third base? Does that mean Lewis goes to second. Does Julien become a first baseman? Where do the Twins put Austin Martin. Better yet, what is the longterm fate of Alex Kirilloff and Jose Miranda. Severino anyone? Prato? All those shortstops like Noah Miller become expendable if Lee is the real deal? You got names like Jenkins, Rodriguez and Gonzalez now as replacements in the outfield the next 3-4 years for sure. Schobel,. DeAndrade, Keaschall are all potential middle infielders. The Twins have riches beyond compare.

    I'm salivating at what the Twins do have in the system when most of the current players have earned out their status as we approach 2026-28, The Twins won't have to trade prospects, just guys either espensive in arbitration or possible free agents as the years roll on.

    Sure, it could be a high=price to play for one year of a soon to be expensive free agent. But the Twins could've pulled it off, easily...considering what Baltimore gave the Brewers.

    The Twins have had their own share. Cookie Lavagetto had a decent career on the field. Sam Mele, too. Cal Ermer, like the later Tom Kelly, paid his dues in the minors. Billy Martin was one of many infielders to helm the Twins, all so-so players overall: Billy Gardner, Frank Quilici, Gene Mauch, Bill Rigney, Ron Gardenhire, Johnny Goryl. Rocco Baldelli and Paul Molitor ae both the best hitters, although one played 2,164 more games than the other. Remember the pitching guru Ray Miller, one of the finest pitching coaches in the game, but never managed to become a manager of note (how many pitchers become managers?). These days, a manager is only as good as their overly large coaching staff. Once upon a time three coaaches were enough, or four for the early decades in Twins-land. Now you have, what, 8-9...is there a 10th body in there somewhere?

    Carmargo is a nice depth piece who should egt regular play at St. Paul to really prove his worth. Can he call a game, hold runners, and continue to hit for power? Right now, he is the best catcher. ANd onlyt needed if something happens to the two in the majors. Canterino, Rodriguez, Martin all have future potential. Unless Martin shines, and Buxton doesn't play in centerfield, I expect those three, along with Severino, to showcase their work in the minors. The biggest question is where you play Martin? And where do the Twins play Larnach? Severino will play first, some third, and hopefully hit and become either the DH of the future, or a solid tradechip. I look at the batch of Balazovic, Jensen, Sands Staumont, Winder and Gordon, and even possibly Headrick, as not being anywhere on the Twins 40-man come next off-season, which means they sink or swim by how they play for their future in baseball today. Balazovic and Gordon are out of options and will probably be given every chance to shine, although if I was the Twins I would be dangling either in some sort of trade package. Yes, all COULD play at the major league level and contribute in some way. They are on the 40-man have had time in the majors, so that is their one plus.

    I enjoyed this recap of names on the cusp, especially those already at St. Paul. Makes me wonder that the Twins may remain light on minor league free agents, sitting around four so far this seaason instead of the near 30 they have signed each of the past few. I like to think that names like WIlliams, Keirsey, Goodrum, Helman, Prato are just as worthy as Harlick, Luplow, Stevenson to play in the majors if push comes to shove. Not to mention the stockpile of relief arms (who will be in the Saints rotation in 2024?) in the twin city. If all works out for 2024, the Twins roster at the major league level could be pretty well set for the next few years with the only consideration given to arbitration salaries and who is in reserve. Always need depth at every position, and Twins are getting closer to dealing from some minor league strengths if some "top" prospects can develop more than they have. Considering the dozen guys that need to find space at St. paul and Wichita, the Twins top two teams look pretty solid going forwards.

    Well, the Twins need a guy capable of eating some innings? Can DeSclafani do it? Leaving Varland in the wings if Paddack breaks down, perhaps. It fills the need for a fifth starter and depth for the rotation pushing Varland down a notch and letting us hope Festa, Canterino, maybe even Dobnak or Woods Richardson will be part of the answer as the season rolls along. Another bullpen arm for the 8th position in the pen. Allows the Twins to option out a couple of current roster guys, if need be. Four players for one. Polanco had no position if Julien is the second baseman and you are looking for a place for Lee going forwards. Doesn't really add payroll to the Twins, either. But didn't cut payroll at all. Two prospects, neither of whom need to be added to the 40-man anytime soon.

    Aaron Hicks, who is owed a ton of money by the Yankees and could sign for major league minimum, signed with the Angels.

    Drew Strotman signs with Astros. Part of the Nelson Cruz trade with the Rays, he as let go by the Twins after the 2022 season.

    Both would be inexpensive, and maybe the Twins could dangle, say, Nick Gordon? Balazovic? Sands? Someone with still some upside for the other team, a cheap contract, but out of options for the Twins.

    Dakota Chalmers, who sat out 2023, but was on the Twins 40-man roster in 2021, has signed with D-Backs. The Twins got him for Fernando Rodney. Speaking of Rodney, he is attempting to make a comeback at age 47. Last pitching for a major league organization in 2019, he has bounced around the indy and foreign scenes the last 4 years throwing 150+ innings in relief. Troy Wolters, a depth catcher the Twins signed last season for St. Paul, has retired, but will join the Rockies in a coaching capacity.

    IF Alcala can come back. He ahs the stuff to be...say...another Jesse Crain, perhaps? Henriquez, Woods Richardson - both have youth on their side. Both may best be bets for the pen. Headrick needs a role determination. He shows signs of being a lefty who can give you 2-3+ innings, possibly. If you ever need an opener, he could fill that bill, too. I imagine the Twins will continue to stretch him as a starter. But after some time in the majors, look for him to be...hungry. Winder will also start in the rotation of St. Paul and be a possible depth piece. I'm not sure the ultimate status of Cole Sands. Interesting choices for the Twins to make on many an arm. Do you take Varland, and ask him to throw his best 20-35 pitches and get a solid inning, or have him work as a rotation arm. We saw how much better Jax worked out of the pen. With Jax, you can't bring him in with a runner on base (no 10th innings) as he will logically put at least a base runner on the paths more often than not, as well as another ball in good play. And though I hope Jax would be a one-time-thru-the-order guy in long relief, it didn't happen, as well as pitching in back-to-back games wasn't his overall strength. The joy is that the Twins (unless they end up resigning Odorizzi) have a slew of rotation arms who will get the team thru the 5th inning at worst, and push towards the 7th.

    I like watching Ryan pitch. As long as he can control the pace of the game, and give him a smart catcher with pre-game prep, and he should always dominate. That being said, get his timing off, and will he just unravel, or can he take back control. In the back of one's mind, you wonder why Tampa Bay let him go. Of course, he is on the "old" end - which ike Ober, is good. The Twins will have control of both into their 30/31 years. And, considering how this season goes, the Twins NEED to get another year out of them both. Ober also can control his work. I'm looking forward to seeing a full season. This is where it is important to have a pitching coach, stat guys and such. The Twins have potential control guys. All pitchers give up home runs. Even Louis Varland could fall into that category. And I hope Louie can join the duo into being a part of a longterm rotation for the Twins. Louie works fast. He has jsut learned, though, that major league batters can be mroe patient, are more powerful, more selective, and one mistake...pow. Four or more years for all of the three, combined with Lopez. Now who gets a break and when to also become a aprt of the Twins rotation?

    Hendriks not getting the bullpen chance was the Twins BIG mistake. It worked for Perkins, Hawkins, Guardado. Now works for Jax. Happily for Varland if he doesn't shine as a starter. Was he just out of options?

    Dave McCarty...man he hung on the fringe for a loooooong time, 11 seasons. Early 30s a regular at Kansas City and okay. But talk about a cup-of-coffee every year with mixed results.
