  1. Lewis can get hurt just as easily at SS or 3B. There are walls to deal with around the infield too. Plus other infielders, baserunners, dugouts and tarps. I don't see how the infield is any safer.
  2. Ideally, Buxton is the guy roaming CF. But if not him, my vote would be Lewis. The Twins have the luxury of having a guy that could play SS and CF plus another guy that looks like he could stick at SS too. That doesn't even account for the guy currently residing at SS that's here for a while longer.
  3. I see. I misinterpreted what you said. I'd much rather see them switched too, but I can understand why they're not if Gallo is banged up.
  4. I would say that Gallo is a much better outfielder. I haven't seen him or Kirilloff enough personally to say much about which is better at 1B. And if Gallo has a bum leg or whatever, it makes sense to keep him at 1B as much as I dislike it. Kirilloff's bat needs to be in the lineup.
  5. With the number of corner types on the 40 man, I don't see how any of the guys listed really fit. Some assumptions needed to be made by the FO, of course. But they're also in a better position to know things like where Kirilloff's wrist is. In these days of 13 man pitching staffs and short benches, I'll take versatility over what the guys listed represent. Solano isn't exactly a defensive specialist, but he does have versatility in the field and that's more important in a bench player, in my opinion. He's a better fit for the roster than any of the guys listed in the article.
  6. An extension doesn't surprise me at all. I'm among those that think he's doing exactly what the FO wants him to do and they're all in lockstep with each other. So, it stands to reason that he'd be safe. I'm not really sure what to make of it though. I'm kind of indifferent about it. I don't think Rocco is a poor manager. I don't think he's a good manager. He's in the middle of the pack, like most managers. I think they could do worse fairly easily, but it would be tough to do better since those guys are relatively rare and harder to come by. My managerial philosophy is summed up succinctly by Jim Leyland, who is quoted as saying something like "As managers, we give the players the answers to the test. It's still up to them to take the test."
  7. Hopefully that fire lasts a little longer than this gif, or else they'll need another before the season starts!
  8. Sheepishly puts down Screwdriver... ...and the Scotch... ...begrudgingly gets ready for work...
  9. Patience is typically required for player performance. If you sign a guy and he struggles, whether you're tweaking something or not, you should give them time to try to work through it. It's easier to cut a guy than replace them. Nobody is going to be the same player for 162 games. Nobody. Obviously the greats are better and quicker at getting back to form, but that's what makes them great. And if you're tweaking a guys motion or swing, it's not reasonable to just cut them loose before that player has a chance to get comfortable with the tweak. That said, there are definitely instances where this FO has held on too long. They have have solid reasoning to do so, but we don't always know what that is. Pagan is a clear instance of that. Shoemaker and Happ are others, but I'm not sure I would go with a blanket statement that they're unwilling to admit mistakes in general.
  10. At this point, you kind of have to give him a shot right? If you're going to say during the offseason that you're relying on the in-house depth and options, you don't leave yourself much of a choice. It's going to be time to sink or swim for some of these guys.
  11. I think there's some hindsight involved with the bullpen. I think there's been a few surprises, including Pagan actually being serviceable in low leverage situations, but I can't think of too many guys that were out there that I was all that interested in. And relievers are notoriously wild cards. So, I'm not overly concerned about it. The offense is a much bigger issue for me.
  12. I'm glad that they're pitching really well and it is certainly better than the opposite, but it's still May. Far too early to even tease end of the year awards.
  13. While I have no problems with Lewis playing the outfield, I do think the issues on the infield are a bigger problem. Assuming the Lewis that we saw last year appears, that's an instant bump both offensively and defensively at 3B.
  14. Instant "buyers" remorse! 🤣
  15. A car with 6 digits on the odometer that only needs an alternator seems overly optimistic, doesn't it? I suppose if you then told me that it has no floor boards, the rocker panels rusted out in the Reagan administration and otherwise resembles the Blues Brothers car at the end of the police chase scene, I guess I can run with that. And at least the Blues Brothers car got them to their destination, so there is that.
  16. The last couple of series have been good. After that brutal stretch, especially offensively, it's good to see. With Kirilloff in the lineup and producing, that's a huge bonus for the team. Perhaps Larnach can get things going too and really give the lineup a boost until the veterans start being more consistent.
  17. Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play? It's a long season. Plenty of time to get things back on track. As for Royce, perhaps we should see what he can do other than write him off after one whole game after a long injury recovery.
  18. And I suppose the next thing they're going to tell us is that this team will be the one to actually win a playoff game! Nice try Storylines crew, I ain't buying it!
  19. This is true. I'm not even sure that I want to sign him for 3 unless there's an opt out. At that point, the QO is a moot point for sure.
  20. I'm not sure that I want to do that, but I think both could be done. I would agree that Gray should be the priority though.
  21. Why not both? If they can finagle a Dobnak type deal out of it with Mahle, we're not talking significant enough numbers to think that they couldn't do both. As far as the gamble part, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Make them earn their spot.
  22. This team just can't beat the Yankees in anything, can they?
  23. This is a nice series win. The Padres have plenty of talent to test the pitching staff and they held their own pretty well and the bats showed enough life to pull out a pair of wins. Overall, a pretty good momentum grab heading into the weekend.
  24. A series win!  How 'bout that!
