Article: What if This is the Max for Kepler?
wsnydes replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good pitchers also induce more K's and fewer walks. There aren't that many good pitchers in the game to explain his poor hard hit rate. Besides, it's not like he's facing an ace every day. Pitch selection is certainly part of it, but it's certainly not all of it. He simply needs to learn to drive the ball. That's coachable. So is pitch selection for that matter. -

If he was swinging at so many bad pitches, he'd be striking out more and walking less. Neither of those are the case. The opposite was actually true. Some guys hit a lot of ground balls. Some guys hit a lot of fly balls. Some guys hit a lot of line drives. If the launch angle revolution has taught us anything, it's that such things can be coached. He needs to hit more line drives. His average would go up accordingly. -
Article: Twins Manager Paul Molitor Fired
wsnydes replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
While admittedly I never liked the hiring in the first place, i was willing to give him a chance and I do think that he actually improved in some areas as he gained experience. He wasn't fired because of this season alone however. While things like the bullpen management, general attitude towards the younger players and playing his veteran favorites more irritated me, there were limitations to what he had to work with. That said, I don't think he took advantage of opportunities to rest his bullpen horses. But what has always bothered me most about Molitor's teams is their inability to play fundamental baseball. They consistently beat themselves. I can live with losing because they other team is better, but if you consistently beat yourself like this team has under Molitor's watch then that has to go back to the manager. The fact that this problem never drastically improved is a worthy of a firing on it's own in my opinion. Those types of mistakes are correctable and they never were.- 284 replies

But now I'd actually kinda want to know how that would work. I imagine that if he were optioned, he'd simply be ineligible to play and the same rules for minor league transactions would dictate. This has been kinda fun in a silly sense. Who knew that baseball rules could be so fun?!- 284 replies

Would the Twins not also fit into that same category though? In that context, it seems to be apples to apples in my mind. Not that it matters in the end though. My initial comment that sparked this was a one off quip in a half joking/half serious post. I'm not taking much stock in anything since the trade deadline.- 284 replies

Or if you optioned him to the minors, would you then have to call up another manager?- 284 replies

Not the roster I want going into 2019, I just thought it odd to rip the roster composition of their best month. That's all.- 284 replies

Awkwardness or not, that would have been my preference too. To me, the awkwardness would be more of a concern for Molitor than anyone.- 284 replies

ah, perhaps. Though, having just be relieved of his duties I'm not sure how much impact that would have for the new guy. Probably depends a lot on what the new role is and how much he'll be around the big league club. You're probably right though, there is that potential.- 284 replies

It's also possible that this has little to do with what transpired on the field. It could be as simple as the FO and Molitor not being on the same page and they decided to go get their own guy. It's unlikely that we'll really know if that's the case however.- 284 replies

That's what I'm going to find most intriguing about this. They've been able to evaluate the in-house staff that has been retained and have had their chance to bring in their own people as well. I think that I still prefer to go outside of the organization, but I'm not as adamantly opposed about it as I was when Molitor was hired.- 284 replies

wsnydes replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Right there with you. Hard to maintain a dry eye when he walked out in his catchers gear. Nobody around me had a dry eye, myself included. It was a really fun atmosphere at the ballpark all afternoon. That wasn't a send off for a player that hasn't made up his mind. Especially with Mauer's hesitation to grab the spotlight, I think he knows exactly what he wants to do.- 21 replies

Article: MIN 5, CHW 4: You Are Appreciated, Joe Mauer
wsnydes replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks for the recaps, Tom! Great job as usual. I may not have had the time to post and check in as frequently as I wanted to the last six weeks or so, but I always managed to check out these recaps. Perfect send off for Joe. If anyone at Target Field managed to keep a dry eye until the 9th, I can't imagine that many did when he came out in his catchers gear. Nobody around me did, and neither did I. Pretty cool way to walk off the field. Thanks for the memories, Joe! -

I just can't get passed how good this team can look against the leagues best and then get bludgeoned by the dregs of the league in the next series. -

Agreed. I'm figuring that if it is true that there's going to be a significant chunk of that change that as a fan, I'm not going to be able to see or realize.

Concur. I'm certainly more interested if there's a good pitching matchup. Even better if I have tickets for said matchup or even if a guy is on the bump for a team we don't see often from an NL team. I rarely go to games to see individual players, but a good starting pitcher is a bit different in my mind.

Article: Twins Daily Roundtable: Grading Molitor
wsnydes replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think you nailed the frustration factor point. This team has so many facets that need to be sorted out that making short term financial decisions like they did is very frustrating. It would have been nice to see them try to keep sorting at least some of those things out.
