  1. I believe that is correct, but they were unsure if he was going to be there in time to actually play so he wasn't in the lineup. I don't know if he was available to PH if needed.
  2. Indeed. He was right to fret about the potential of an immediate 60 day IL stint. That would certainly be bad news.
  3. Right, I was trying to clarify (perhaps poorly) that officially he's on the 10 day. That doesn't preclude a move to the 60 day IL in the future or that he ends up on the IL for 60 days. I interpreted Brock's post to show disappointment that a 60 day IL stint was a possibility at this point, which would certainly be disappointing and a different scenario.
  4. Official twins release says 10 day. That obviously doesn't mean it won't be 60 days anyway though.
  5. State of the Daily would be fitting moniker I think.
  6. I'm not ready to declare anything, especially that the rotation is better than advertised. Let's see what happens as they play more quality opponents. One month doesn't establish much, especially when it's April.
  7. This series does a good job of showing how far from being a true contender this team is. They do appear to have the offense to play with the big boys, but like you said, the pitching is lacking. It's a pretty tough road to travel when you're facing an ace three times in a five game playoff series. That also puts enormous pressure on Berrios to not only win his starts but to go deep into them as well. Winning a division, even a really bad one, is nice. I guess I'd like to set my sights a bit higher than that an actually become a legitimate contender. The offense is there, but the pitching...woof...
  8. I got pretty much what I expected out of this game, it's just that some of the pieces involved were different. I didn't expect them to do much against Verlander even if the best pieces played. And I didn't expect Stewart to fair any better than he did. In fact, he went deeper than I had hoped. It kinda is what it is in my view. Anyone heard who was recalled for Stewart's spot?
  9. Are both on regular rest? Perhaps it would be Stewart's regular day to pitch and that's not the case with Littell?
  10. It's awfully difficult to beat good teams when you shoot yourself in the foot, especially late in the game. Too many quick innings with the bats, errors and poor decision making (Duffey) simply aren't going to get it done against a team like Houston. It doesn't get any easier tonight versus Verlander. Stewart is going to have his hands full too.
  11. Totally unacceptable! (Grabs torch and pitchfork)
  12. I've been reading, just forgot that you said anything about the 7th. Regardless, I'm still not sure what Harper has to do with the conversation. Even if Odorizzi gets through the 6th and starts the 7th, it appears as though May was the one to come in to finish an inning not Harper. Or worse, Odorizzi gets bombed in the 6th and doesn't finish anyway but allows the lead to shrink further. Obviously we don't know how that scenario plays out but we've said our respective piece. Either way, you're right that we can end this conversation. I'm perfectly content to agree to disagree.
  13. Harper hadn't pitched since Thursday. He may very well have been gassed, but neither of us know that. Nor do we know that about Odorizzi. We're not in the dugout and we're neither Rocco or the players involved. Not really sure what Harper has to do with the conversation. May came in to relieve Odorizzi and got out of the inning without further damage. Odorizzi had already given up a HR that inning. Harper started his own inning and got into his own mess. Are you insinuating that Odorizzi should have finished the 6th and gone out again for the 7th?
  14. Assuming Odorizzi wasn't gassed, sure. But we don't know that, Baldelli does. He was at 100 pitches when he came out. No sense in prolonging an inning at that point and possibly allowing the Astros to put up a crooked number. With Odorizzi's tendency to struggle through a lineup a third time, I don't have an issue with him getting pulled there. In that ballpark, runs can be scored in a hurry and Houston has a pretty potent offense. No sense allowing Odorizzi to put another guy on or give up a HR. Limit the damage, put out the fire before it gets too hot.
  15. Well said! I also have to accept that I'm simply not going to enjoy watching the bullpen hang on for dear life many nights! But it is what it is, like it or not!
  16. I think this point is getting overlooked a bit so far this season. At least as it pertains to the position players. I think Rocco is doing a good job of getting everyone pretty regular playing time, especially considering the odd scheduling so far. Hopefully when the schedule normalizes he doesn't continue with the hockey line change approach, but I do like that he's getting guys AB's with regularity. That should pay dividends when the inevitable injury bug starts biting. It does help that the bench players are able to play multiple positions. That hasn't been the case in recent seasons, but I think Rocco is doing pretty well with what he's got.
  17. I doubt you are, but it would be very interesting to see the demographics. I go to fewer games as well. Most of that is that I simply don't have the time I used to, but it's also gotten more expensive and I'd rather spend that money elsewhere.
  18. I like that theory. I think you're definitely on to something there. I think the deterioration of the family atmosphere plays into that as well. Not only is it exceedingly expensive, but with the continued push to sell alcohol the behavior disintegrates too. I don't have kids, but it's not uncommon to find myself sitting there wondering whether or not I'd subject my kid to what goes on in the crowd sometimes. Keeping families and the next generation of fans away is big problem, not just for baseball.
  19. This used to be me. I still like to get to the park early and watch BP when I can, but I used to grab some food and a beverage while I sat there. And then there were plenty of times when I'd go back and get more food and/or beverage. Like someone upthread said, I'd really like to hear DSP respond to a question about this info.
  20. Exactly. I don't go to a ball game for the restaurants or the newly added strip mall in RF. I have this weird desire to watch a baseball game, keep score when it interests me and maybe munch on some seeds but only if I brought them in with me.
  21. Ha! I'm old enough to have been around during the Ron Davis era, but young enough to not have any first hand recollection. From everything I've read and been told, that's a blessing!
  22. Fair enough. Let's not pretend that even the best pieces of the bullpen have locked things down otherwise this season though. I'm not expecting perfection, but they have a tendency to make games far more interesting than one would hope. You're correct, relievers will allow base runners and runs at some point. My point is that these guys seem to do it nearly every outing. I find it amusing that you mentioned Nathan and Perkins, but no Every Day Eddie? That guy made those two look like The Sandman. It seemed like he was always pitching with the bases loaded.
  23. I agree completely. I mentioned up thread that I used to get something to eat and/or drink at every game dating back to the Dome. These days, I refuse to buy anything unless I don't have time to stop somewhere otherwise. I do agree that it's a problem. You'd think that there has to be a breaking point somewhere. I doubt that I'm the only one that won't buy anything, but I do know that I'm in the minority.
  24. Agreed, but they seem to be approaching ludicrous speed proportions these days.
  25. I know this is beating a dead horse, but when the bullpen's best assets still end up making a game interesting against a team like Baltimore, it doesn't give me any warm fuzzies inside...
