    I think Avila's role is dependent on if they carry a 3rd catcher on the roster, as he's the most likely PH candidate in close games. Related, it depends how much they trust Austudillo catching in close games.

    I could be remembering this wrong, but didn't people question if Mauer was too tall to be a catcher at about the same height?

    I thought this was a parody article at first. If they really want to fix something, shorten the season by a hair. I love the marathon of MLB, but September call-ups make it mostly unwatchable. Drop it to a 154 games, move the playoffs up in the calendar to slightly warmer weather. Have fewer callups (I know they already changed that). A bye week? Seriously? In baseball? Ug.

    Like any relief pitcher, Graterol just needs to forget yesterday and look forward to the next game. Could this story have been handled differently? Yes. But we'll all move on and as long as he proves himself on the mound, it will be forgotten soon. Honestly, this seems typical for a story about BOS or LA sports coverage.

    LAD seems like a good fit. They know how to build innings and use swingmen instead of the traditional 1 IP approach (e.g. Maeda and Urias in recent years).

    Ha, I remember when the people in front of me caught one and got super excited. Then they unfolded it to see it was just a CitiBank shirt with a tiny Twins logo.

    I think opening with "little doubt that he can hit" and burying that he doesn't make contact in 1/3 of his ABs is misleading. I see the strikeouts in MiLB as a major concern. It seems like he's closer to Sano on his cold streaks.

    Almost all trades seem to be position player for position player or, contrarily, pitcher for a pitcher. I'm not reading into it past that.

    I highly doubt that other GMs are basing their value on what the Twins' FO said this offseason with zero games played in the meantime. They base it on scouting reports.

    The postseason is often about who is hot at the right time. Matt Garza and David Freese were also above average baseball players who weren't superstars.

    Would he take a 2-year deal with an agreement that he might spend the majority of 2020 in AAA as he works back into shape? It seems unlikely, but it might be win-win that way. He gets 2 years guaranteed and the Twins have one less opening in 2021. I'm thinking similar to the last Pineda deal. But there's a big difference between rehab and a year in AAA.

    That's the rub. You can't just hand a rookie the job either. Sometimes they need more seasoning or that mental wake-up call.

    The Twins shouldn't worry about any team but themselves. But as fans, should we worry? I guess that's the fun of the season.

    Exactly. I wonder if he's just going to be streaky, which is weird when it comes to patience. It was great his rookie year and parts of last year. The playoffs...not so much.

    Remember when Ryan LaMarre was starting in September, or when infielder Luis Arraez was put in LF repeatedly last year? Yes. They will make room for them.

    I don't think a free agent or his agent cares what "fan bases" think of an organization's reputation. They care about those within the industry. Otherwise, your point holds merit.

    If he's willing to sign a nonroster spot that's great, as they can stash him in AAA with an opt out date.

    The extra option year is intriguing. I also think Romero is a case for why we shouldn't make statements like "bolstered by Brusdar Graterol's now-confirmed inclusion." Never rely on a rookie to be a difference maker, and never rely on a player in a new position to be a difference maker. If they are, great. But that's a bonus. But you're more likely to end up disappointed. Transition usually takes time.
