  1. I asked in the game thread, but it was end of night. Has Romero been used in back-to back games in the minors yet? Great win. I'm excited. To nitpick, I'm a little surprised at the choice of Magill + Romero before the DH, just because those are the two candidate to give you 2+ innings if needed today. Who a I kidding? Nothing can go wrong right now.
  2. I think Cave and the bottom rung of the bullpen ride the AAA/MLB/AAA shuttle until the trading deadline. Around that time, they'll make at a move and somebody hits waivers. Probably Adrianza. I imagine they picked up Torres as a failsafe if the lose EH and need a 10-15 day IL replacement along the way and Gordon isn't ready.
  3. I agree in normal circumstances. But I expect caution with Pineda given his history. He's not just some pitcher coming off TJ surgery. He's a pitcher who has barely ever pitched a full season without a trip to the IL.
  4. Isn't he on an innings limit for the year anyway, or was that just to start the season. He hasn't pitched 150 in...I'm not going to look, but over 2 years. Or maybe they don't care if they push him since he's a free agent anyway.
  5. I like what I see right now. I also view him as a placeholder. With Polanco locked up, I don't think you tie down both middle infield spots considering that there are 3 1st round SS's developing in the minors.
  6. The question not asked above: Does Kimbrel want to be a Twin? If the answer is no, none of this matters.
  7. I still can't wrap my head around Molitor putting him in the 3-hole.
  8. Tony Fiore had a really good year once. Fingers crossed.
  9. Plus, he's only ~40 IP removed from TJ surgery.
  10. I'd hardly call something that's happened a half dozen times out of thousands of minor leaguers "the new norm." I'd say no to this, but that's based on how the old regime operated. I honestly don't think it makes any sense to lock up a player before their arb years.
  11. A week ago Austudillo was better than Ty Cobb. The Twins signed Gonzalez to be a utility player. They signed Torres as Adrianza insurance. This will work itself out. Absolutely no worries here, except that Sano not getting a full Spring Training may cause some painful rust for everyone. I think he needs a quick start for his confidence and that's even harder without ST.
  12. I didn't follow Odorizzi in Tampa, but I've followed the Twins since (and before) Gibson came up. I'd reverse that description. Gibson has been like this for most of his career, with 2-3 hot streaks in between.
  13. It's a long season. I prefer to watch the A-Team, but keeping everyone sharp is important. I think the fact that most of the bench players have cold bats right now is evidence of why. Hell of a game.
  14. Hopefully not until somebody is pushing for that job. I'm not sure anyone in AAA is at this point.
  15. I'm curious about backup OF defense in this game. Both Kepler and Rosario in CF over Cave. Austudillo in LF over Gonzalez. The latter was more surprising to me, especially in a 1 run game.
  16. He's going to need at least one day off to let the HBP bruises heal. Does he crowd the plate or are other factors at play here?
  17. I'd guess it depends on how much they like Gonzalez at SS. Austudillo may be playing Adrianza off the team.
  18. How are Twins pitchers comparing to the league average in K/9? I feel like Ks are so rampant in today's game that these stats are almost meaningless.
  19. If you count Castro and Buxton among the changes, this lineup is very different than a year ago.
  20. Might want to update the note about Duda.
  21. Congrats to Harper. As the only bullpen arm with options (I think), I'm guessing he'll ride the shuttle this year.
