  1. They need to assign every player in the starting 10 to do fielding drills all winter long.
  2. I'm a little surprised at Austudillo and choosing Graterol over Perez. But no complaints either. As that STrib article about the clubhouse said, Austudillo makes a difference...off the field. Does he still get to hang around the clubhouse? Once they reach the World Series I'm curious if Cruz might play OF. One step at a time though.
  3. Bad news, but this team has great depth. It's why they are where they are today.
  4. Considering what tends to me in the news, I'm glad MN isn't in it much.
  5. We were having these conversations about Guzman and Rivas once too. Let it play out. This is what the minor leagues are for.
  6. While I find assigning a value to players kind of abstract, Sano's future depends if he can improve to league average at 3B. If he sticks there, he's worth so much more than at 1B/DH.
  7. And this is one reason I don't see him back with the Twins. Historically, all MLB players want to test the market when they finally get free of team control. And they don't like it when the team who just controlled them gives them a low offer. Even if it's justified for medical reasons.
  8. There are still 2-3 starts from Gibson and Perez. Hope one of them catches a hot streak and figures something out. If not, you ad lib with a short leash. I would assume it defaults to Gibson based on veteran status and such (though the recent bullpen use does raise some questions about the faith that Rocco has in him).
  9. First half would have been Polanco. He and Kepler have been the most healthy and are both having great seasons. Cruz has missed too many games but he's still in the running. It's such a well-rounded team.
  10. What was the corresponding roster move?
  11. Same thing I've said on this board elsewhere: Pineda is never going to give a team a full season anyway. He's just not built for it. Look at his injury history, including before TJ... But if the price is right you sign any player that can help your team. In a vacuum, I'd rather have a player whose is scheduled to miss a chunk of the season than a July 1 free agent signee. This is presuming that Pineda is, in fact, post season eligible in 2020.
  12. I've never gotten the impression the stat heads are concerned with the human element of the game.
  13. It's interesting. But it's also an incredibly small sample size.
  14. This isn't the NFL (thankfully, is so many ways). I'm not sure bandwagon front office hires will be based on one year alone. If this continues for 2-3 years, maybe. Then again, Rocco was kind of hired along those lines...
  15. I assume Falvey and Levine are under contract and Twins could say no to them interviewing for a parallel position elsewhere.
  16. Based on his performance in TC, I'm not sure about Hamels in the AL. Ryu is a risk. Think Wheeler would perform in the AL? I'm open to the rest. Probably to any, honestly. I mean, as long as they're equal to Gibson the rotation isn't moving backward. I'd just prefer not to overpay if somebody like Hamels gets a big contract and doesn't live up to it.
  17. Fortunately there are still 3 weeks until the postseason. This is September baseball. Even on contenders, it's a game of AAAA players. Next year will be a little better, but the up-to-40-man roster is ridiculous.
  18. With his injury history I'd already be hesitant to sign him to more than a 1-year deal in any situation. Add this and...I won't rule it out, but I think this suspension burns some bridges.
  19. Miller and Graterol have combined for 1 IP, 0 AB at the major league level. Cart before horse here? I expect fewer bullpen arms and more versatility from the bench -- like how they opened the season: Austudillo, Cave, Adriana, Arraez, and Gonzalez. If anybody pushes out Cave or Austudillo it might be a fully healthy Gonzalez. There are a lot of off days and fewer starters needed. No reason to carry the AAA shuttle to the postseason. (I do think Graterol has a chance, but that will be determined over the next 3 weeks.)
  20. That's also counting on a lot of scenarios falling into place. Close games, etc. It's a concern, yes. Is it a major catastrophe that threatens the season? No. They have Romo and Dyson too. Rogers isn't a traditional closer.
  21. Details. That's still a lot of off days for a 5 game series. Possible with an off day before and after as well, depending what the rest of the league does.
