    Or, alternately, can a bad 2nd base pick off play (balk/error) become a game changer? If they want to spice up the game, we definitely need more balks.

    They did it with Garver/Jeffers. Probably depends on the degree of the strain with Marwin on the roster already and Cave heating up. If it's over 2 weeks projected, I could see them give Rooker or Kiriloff a shot though.

    This seems...sudden. Surprised there isn't more of a send-off. But what isn't weird about 2020?

    In previous years I thought the same of Buxton (he struggled when skipping rehab assignments). Fingers crossed that both get their groove.

    Even if he struggles it's addition by subtraction, as there's one fewer utility players in the lineup daily. I'm fine with Adrianza playing twice a week, but not 5-6 times.

    In many ways, the current CLE mgmt reminds me of the Twins in the early 2000s. Good team, good system. Challenging finances that cast a shadow over everything else. Yet they manage to be competitive every year.

    That's also 2 years in a row with similar trades. I'm not saying 2 players makes a pattern, but it seems like it isn't the happiest clubhouse.

    He's essentially recovering from surgery. He should be back soon.

    I agree but about the asterisk but...it's still a trophy and (some equivalent of) a parade. Those are the things that the record books and community will mostly see.

    It's impossible to know, of course, but every single person (MLB players or average people at home) is carrying extra stress this year. It has many ways of surfacing.

    I wouldn't give up a top 30 prospect for two rental backups. Especially with this year's playoff format because it's not about the pennant race as much as what happens in the postseason itself.

    I definitely think this is an important, interesting detail. I don't mind the rule, but I also don't think it's achieving what it set out to do.

    Yeah, it's a lazy argument. I wrote that fast. But I really don't like the runner on 2nd to start. You can win a game with two fielder's choice plays. Extra innings are supposed to be dramatic... (To me) Small ball is supposed to be the set-up, not the close. The risk of a sacrifice play is significantly reduced in this scenario.

    1. Surprisingly I like this so far. 2. Meh, I prefer the leagues having different rules. Takes away some of the intrigue in playing a new team. 3. No thank you. I'll take what I can get in 2020, but I don't care for it. 4. Dumb. Totally changes the game. 5. Expanded Rosters - Not a fan of this either. I was a proponent of added 1-2 spots last year, but all it does is lead to bullpen games. Especially with a universal DH, there's less reason to PH.

    I think a lot of this depends on Donaldson. If he's on the active roster, I can't see carrying Gonzalez, Adriana, Vargas, and Austudillo. That's a lot of infielders. Either Austudillo goes to St Paul or they cut Vargas (and they seem to like him, giving his pinch hitting appearance the other day).

    Just like it was meaningless to postpone a game after the I-35W collapse? Community matters. It's right in the name "Minnesota Twins." When tragedies happen, communities react. This means a lot to a lot of people. I'm sure you can find something else to watch on TV instead.

    If anything, I think the cost for elite relievers has gone up. Bullpen games are the new norm and some relievers give you 5 IP per week, just like a starter does.

    I'd trade for a reliever every year. Any rental 6th or 7th inning arm is useful and cheap, especially with expanded rosters. After that, probably stick with what we have. It's such a weird year that I'd horde top prospects. The new playoff structure will be about who is hot more than who has the best team.

    I'm not sure the rotation matters (other than pitcher quality) with a 28-person roster. This is like September call-up baseball and every game is piecemeal/matchups after the 5th.

    I don't think anybody is writing Avila off. It's that he's on a 1-year contract (in a weird season to boot). This year, esp with Garver presumably not hanging around the clubhouse right now, Avila's veteran presence is essential for Jeffers. Catcher is one of those positions where you almost always want a craft veteran (i.e. Bull Durham). A short-year of Avila paired with these two is great for their development.
