Neal: Bailey on Horses and his Revival

https://www.fangraphs.com/players/homer-bailey/8362/stats?position=P#pitchtype You might want to look at his fangraphs first....he throws harder than Odorizzi, has a similar body type to Verlander, and has a nasty split finger. 34 isn't all that old as he hasn't thrown many innings the last 4-5 years. -

Getting $10M better than getting a solid prospect?
Flipper1a replied to darin617's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
FO has drafted well the last two years.....we are giving away our comp balance pick, keeping our first and 2nd, and losing our third I believe by signing Donaldson. One pick isn't going to ruin the draft. -

Flipper1a replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
When you compare Bailey to Odorizzi you see what the FO was seeing. Bailey actually has higher average velocity on his fastball, has a the split finger that really progressed late last year, and had success against Houston and NYY late in the year. I like Bailey over Perez for the simple fact that I think Bailey will listen. I don't think Perez followed instructions very well....seemed to go away from what made him successful early in 2019. -

There are tons of Rule 5 guys next year they are going to have to trade for lower level prospects of some sort.....the two picks the are giving up for Donaldson and Maeda won't hurt that bad. -

The Joc/Stripling going to the Angels is the issue. Angels grabbed those two for nothing; Boston isn't getting much back while paying salary also.....Verdugo/Graterol versus Joc/Stripling? Angels are only sending prospects back. Reminds me of TB/MN/Pitt We traded for Odorizzi with a middle prospect.....TB received Glasnow and Meadows for Archer....
-
Biggest issue is Stripling and Maeda going out and both have very affordable contracts.....the BOSOX are saying whoa, with them we could compete at cheap prices. The haul the Angels received (Joc $8 Million and Stripling $2 Million) is pissing the Bosox off I believe. Then you add Maeda at $3-10 Million.... Boston is 16 million under the tax now...they could have afforded all three.

The one thing I am worried about is the De Leon factor (The Dodgers don't lose on many trades) & we didn't want De Leon for Dozier years back but TB did for Forsythe.....Dodgers are tricky when it comes to trades. De León was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament on March 7, 2018.[22] One week later, Dr. James Andrews successfully performed Tommy John surgery, ending De León's 2018 season.[23] De León returned to game action in May 2019. He returned to the Rays active roster on August 14.[24] Cincinnati Reds On November 20, 2019, De León was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for cash considerations or a PTBNL.[25] I trust Lavine and Falvey when it comes to pitchers; as they made the right call on De Leon as an example. We will see on this one (Graterol for Maeda)....

I think it is the reverse (for pressure) he would be counted as a 4th or 5th starter and they can ease him in early in innings if needed also. There will be some experienced pitchers helping him out too (Hill, Pineda, Odorizzi, Bailey, and Berrios). Cleveland started with 7 guys who could start at the beginning of last year and Kluber and Carrasco ended up with injuries..... We have Berrios, Bailey, and Odorizzi.....Maybes of Romero, Smeltzer, Dobnak, and Thorpe. Graterol will be on an innings limit. Plenty of innings for him. Hill is June; Pineda May. 9 rotation starts until Pineda. Maybe give him (Walker) a little break at that point (DL/Sore Arm for 15 days)?

I would think he would get a better offer than a non roster but we will see.

From Lavelle: Interest in Walker The Twins are finalizing their list of nonroster invites to spring training. One pitcher they are interested in bringing in is a former highly touted righthander: Taijuan Walker. Walker, 27, has thrown just 14 innings over the past two seasons because of Tommy John surgery in April 2018. He was picked 43rd overall by the Mariners in 2010, and touched 98 miles per hour before surgery. The Twins view him as a bounce-back candidate who could help the rotation while Michael Pineda serves his suspension for taking a banned substance and Rich Hill completes his rehabilitation from elbow surgery. Walker would have to prove his health first, then work on his command and secondary pitches, issues he dealt with before he was injured. Walker is 31-31 with a 3.95 ERA in 97 career games, 94 of them starts.

When you are talking about taking on payroll you don't give your best prospects....Price is significantly overpaid. Matters how much they are paying but you send them Rosario/Gordon/ Cave plus one more prospect outside the top 5; very fair trade.

I wouldn't mortgage the near future for those two and also tie up salary. Hard no on any Lewis, Larnach, Kirilloff, Balz, Duran, Alcala, and Graterol offers (basically top 5, 5-10 I wouldn't either). Raley, Javier, Gordon, Raley, Wade, Cave---yes.

FEINSAND: Twins to Sign Josh Donaldson
Flipper1a replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The biggest thing that Donaldson brings......CSW added Gio, Keuchel, and Rondon is coming back to take on our LH bats. I thought last years roster was the best roster that I have seen....this makes this years better....amazing with the cap ###. Maybe add Tajuan Walker or Aaron Sanchez to the mix somehow/someway?
